A little melancholy to see this. George was still in pretty good shape at 95, but it wouldn't be long before he started failing, finally suffering a fall when he was about 99 from which he never really recovered. Johnny did in fact retire and was rarely seen after his last Tonight Show in 1992. Watch this and remember a "curtain call" of sorts. And be thankful you got to experience it.

As a kid back in the hills of southern West Virginia, I (we) listened to radio in those day, no TV available... On those cold snowy Winter evenings and nights there was the George Burns...Gracie Allen, our Miss Brooks and many other great shows to keep us entertained... Those were the "good old days" and nights. Now referred to as the "golden days of radio" and they surely were golden. There's something special and exciting about listening to those stories and sound effects, while building the picture in your mind... Just as TV brought something special, something special was also taken away.

I miss George Burns, along with Johnny and Ed. George was already 16 years older than Johnny lived to be when this aired, and still had another five years to go. The song he sang - “Honky Tonky Monkey Rag” - was published in 1911, and written and composed by Christopher M. Smith (1879-1949), an African-American composer and vaudeville performer who performed with Elmer Bowman and Jimmy Durante, and also wrote music for Bert Williams.

@@jawadanime4222 Yes, I was just talking about how old Johnny Carson lived to be - 79 years old. And George Burns was 95 years old when this was taped on November 14, 1991 (born in 1896). Johnny Carson was 66 years old when this aired, and lived to be 79 (born in 1925 and passed away in 2005). So George Burns was 16 years older than Johnny lived to be (95 - 79 = 16), and 29 years older than Johnny was when this was aired in 1991 (95 - 66 = 29).

If you like George Burns you should look for his book called "All My Best Friends" which is an autobiography from his youngest days to Hollywood stardom. He talks all about the many people that he knew and was friends with. He also tells personal stories about them and his interactions with them. Nothing bad, just stories of friendships and fun things that they did or said. It is a wonderful book about great times in show business.
