How this song hasn't got more attention is beyond me. It's amazing! Also happy heavenly birthday to Johnny Cash today 🙌🏻 🙌🏻

This was my wedding song 15 years ago. Stunningly beautiful song. I agree with you, it's so sad this song hasn't gotten more attention. No one had ever heard of it. Too bad my marriage didn't make it. Still adore the song though. Side note, both my self and my former spouse served in the military and that song was perfect for us in every way.

When I was in the Army my alarm clock played music, and I set the alarm to play this song to wake me up. It got me fired up and reminded me why I was putting my boots on. Every time I listened to it I thought of my grandfather, a CSM, who served three tours in Viet Nam and was an amazing leader, humble, but persuasive.

Nice. For me and mine it was Hells Bells by AC/DC and trash can lids. Hope you lived up to it (it sounds like you probably did).

What a sublime song. Matthews harmony is so good, yet in his wonderful voice he also somehow recognises and respects the vocals of Cash. A perfect union.

It is a perfect union. Not one that I would have ever expected to work, given the differences in their voices, but they turned out a masterpiece.

This song was in the soundtrack from the movie "We Were Soldiers," about the troops of the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), US Army, badly outnumbered and fighting a bloody battle in the Ia Drang Valley of Vietnam in November 1965. The lyrics capture the loyalty soldiers feel toward one another. For them, it strikes a very deep chord. I can't hear it without remembering my friends who died in combat.

I will drink the cup, the poison overflowing. I will lift you up,watch over where you are going. The first one in the last one gone,I´ll be thr rock to stand upon For You.My spirit aches and I can´t stop this river flowing.I fear I take, each labored breath,I draw in knowing. That this could be my last,my final hour. But faith and hope and love give me the power. For You. Thouht I walk through the valley of the shadow of death.I will fear no evil for you are with me.You are with me.I´ll be your salvation though the storms surrounding. There on our own conditions, lay my body down. In the wake abondon willing sacrifice.I will walk trough the canyon, bring the shadows life.
