A lot of celebs say they were bullied or ostracized by others in school. Truly, my son was being picked on by a 5th grader when he was in K-5. I told my son to knock the crap out of him. I got a lot of criticism for this but this is what my Daddy told me to do as a child. The next thg I know, my son was in trouble, getting kicked off the bus and suspended & the 5th grader ..no repercussions for his constant harassment of my 5yr old son. I was infuriated. I marched to the main office at the elementary school at showed myself. The audacity of these ppl. I praised my son bc he reciprocated appropriately. After making a scene, my son's punishment was null & void. Sincerely, from that day fwd, my so flourished with confidence & did not have any other probs with another student. He graduated high school, is attending college, & doing well. To add, the 5th grader never harassed my son again.

@@hursimear3408 That's for adulthood. Most children can't properly fathom "being the bigger man", and there are less protections in place for children than adults. Lidia is right, while they're young, teach them to stand up for themselves the hard way. As they get older, usher them into "being the bigger person". This is the stuff I needed to hear when I was kid. Passivity against sh*tty and creepy behavior is becoming the new norm, children need to learn early on that it is okay to defend yourself and set boundaries. What I got was stupid hushing from the adults around me. And all the rationalizing, essentially taking the side of the borderline criminal hoodlum mob and belittling the pain that was inflicted on me. I've begun to wonder what was their thought process behind it. Like, probably they thought: "Wow, that kid looks so strong, both and mentally and physically, that kid can easily take it. And the kid can easily mend their traumas themselves. But those poor hoodlums behaving irrationally, they need the consoling and stuff..."

When I was in junior high, I was harassed daily by some other boys. They would beat me up, throw stuff at me, steal my property (but not to keep it, just so that I wouldn't have it anymore), all the good stuff. Now, the school counselor tried his best to make it stop. But school counselors are a joke. He would 'talk to them' and 'give them extra homework'. Well these kids never did their homework anyway, and he annoyed them so much that they just beat me up even worse because I snitched. But every authority figure at school always told to under no circumstances fight back. Well, my dad on the other hand sent me to mma training and told me to fight back, and after a two months or so I felt like I could hold my own against all 4 of them. I couldn't. But I went down swinging, every. Single. Time. And after some time, they decided it wasn't worth it to bully me anymore. So, thanks dad.

So did my parents. Didn't stop me from biting my bully's wrist and packing some punches and slaps. The other kids will rat me out to teacher anyway. So I might as well keep biting him until teacher comes back to class to stop me. Best day ever. I was in primary school and a low-key evil at that time. So the kid dug his own grave when he decided to fight me. My parent, his parent, my class teacher, principal, they all assembled in the principal's office. Talking this out and stuff. In the end they all kept asking me to apologize to him. Another funny part was, he apologized, cuz they said we both have to apologize to each other. Starting with him. So he apologized first. When it was my turn to apologize, I just told everyone that he started it, I did nothing wrong in fighting back, so I won't apologize. And I never did. Since then, kids know what they'll get if they start with me. I made sure they understand that if I decided to whoop their asses, the so called "Adults" won't be able to save them. Before any adults can come to help, it'd be over. That's the only way mean kids stay away. Everyone say violence is bad, fighting fire with fire is bad. But then, only cut diamonds with diamonds.

My advice to my children was almost the same. I told my kids "Don't start anything but if someone starts a fight with you, FINISH IT and kick their a$$!!" I don't know how many times kids picked on me when I was growing up, called me names because I was nice (crazy, right?!) or my clothes weren't as perfect as theirs. When they laid hands on me or my friends, they had a new understanding of what 'opening Pandora's box' MEANT.

The problem with the "don't give a fuck" advice is that it's not black and white. There are times where you DO have to give a fuck with people you care about. Too many men take this advice to heart, and turn out as selfish narcs with a hollow personality. Defend yourself when people invade your personal space, but don't tune out the rest of the world either. Depp isn't exactly a shining example of someone who has his shit together anyways.
@1..0w0..3

There is a difference between "just caring what others think" and "letting their thoughts ruin my peace". So that's what he is emphasizing here. We all care and we don't realize that our brains are wired to care about what others think of us. It's like a switch left on all the time. Sometimes we gotta manually turn it off. Cuz our "fucks" are precious, not meant to be given all the time to everyone.
@einareinarsson8662

Exactly. Why should you dont care. Because people are not concerned and interested in your best, your happiness, your needs or anything. They just care more about bringing you down and gossip, and make you small. So thats why you should not care about what people think If they are not so close to you.
@siriusvenus8708

That's such a beautiful statement about the evolution of spirit and courage. What a portrait. I'm sure you would NEVER violate anyone else's personal space if you had the chance and police could not stop you or the victim had no self-defense because--the music soundtrack makes me want to cry with the beauty of your heroism and total commitment to human rights and the self-determination that you so gracefully posit here in this musical masterpiece type of warm-hearted sentimentality! It makes me want to scream I mean cry !

As life is, there is good and bad in everything. I can see how this rock incident affected him in both ways. He is clearly well-off, talented, and has a commanding presence on screen, so the “take control and run with it” thing pushed him into stardom. But I can also see how that same mentality got him into trouble on dealing with conflict outside of acting....just a thought

I wish my mom said something like that to me. Instead, one time in 4th grade I got badly jumped & got some teeth knocked out, broken ribs & she ended up slapping me & grounded me for a month for letting that happen. Then in high school this kid kept bullying me, i tried to talk to her about it & she yelled at me for "starting" something like that with him. I skipped school a few times because I didn't want to confront that kid. When my mom found out I skipped school she beat the living $#!t out of me.

Johnny adhered to this method of dealing with issues his entire life. The only issue is, he started using bigger rocks and was once spotted dropping a medium-sized boulder on a parking attendant's skull for giving him a ticket. As you can imagine, the attendant died immediately.
