From an ethical point of view, you are right. But that's not the conceptual framework that narrative is couched in. It's upsetting, and yes it is harmful. Unfortunately a lot of people, especially the more incel type, will use this to prove that all women are evil, which is just an awful stigmatization in the first place, and it hurts everyone equally. I don't think it is. I think it shows that we need to wait before jumping to conclusions. Innocent until proven guilty, whether it's a man or a woman. I think this is a good moment for male victims and a bad moment for toxic masculinity because now that a manly movie star has shown publicly that he can be abused by a woman, hopefully people will change their perceptions about men. They can cry, they can be abused, they can be sexually assaulted and no, they don't have to man up and take it and hide their emotions and their pain.
@indya2762

I completely agree with you on it makes things harder for women. I have friends who are victims of DV and seeing this whole case was just terrifying for them. Because of her, survivors who come forward must now bare the implications attached to the verdict that women who come forward against powerful men may not only not be believed, but actively punished. Now, survivors will be much more reluctant to come forth about their instances of abuse out of fear of being humiliated and receiving intense backlash. Some, not all, but some men will really take any opportunity to shame a woman and call her a liar. It’s truly horrible.

The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband. I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously. I believe Johnny's attorneys succeeded in getting the jury to overlook the key issue of Freedom of Speech and ignore evidence that was so conclusive that we won in the UK. I'm sad I lost this case. But I am sadder still that I seem to have lost a right I thought I had as an American - to speak freely and openly.

The most messed up thing about people writing articles saying that this case is a "step-back" when it comes to domestic abuse against women, is that it suggests that we are automatically supposed to believe any women who accuse men of domestic abuse... Even when A COURT OF LAW determines that it wasn't true. The fact that people automatically believe a woman when they falsely accuse a man of rape or domestic violence is messed up. The most vocal people out there declaring this a big victory are, themselves, victims of domestic abuse. They immediately recognized the brand of manipulative, gaslighting abuse Johnny went through and demanded justice. Even self-identifying feminists are speaking up, rightfully calling out the bullshit third-wave feminists have spewed for years and endorsed (thereby, enabling abusers like Heard to thrive and hide behind social justice movements). I'm no longer a feminist myself (egalitarianism is my jam), but I'm relieved these feminists are finally addressing issues with the MeToo Believe-All-Women narrative. So no, none of this 'sets back women' since the people celebrating today are those actively fighting for TRUE equality and justice. Depp's win only sets back the LYING, manipulative people out there who want to continue gaming the system.

Media favoritism surely is the most unfortunate thing to plague our society. The amount of things that get swept under the rug in favor of an abuser, especially in the case of one who is successful/wealthy and the abusees who are less fortunate, before the details get to the public is abominable. It reminds me of that one lawyer who had blackmailed and raped well over 100 women who had to use his services. He just liked to keep getting these impoverished women's cases and just fucking torturing them for his own sexual gain. And what did some media outlets say? That the women exchanged sexual favors with him in return for legal services. One of the videos related to it is titled "jury views graphic sex video in ex-SA lawyer's trial; juror faints". They claim it was just rough sex and they immediately followed it up by saying she was an addict and a prostitute. The comments hold plenty of detail about how KSAT 12 completely misrepresented the situation. In general, the media is a fucking cancer that will do whatever they can to appeal to their widest audience, even if it's nothing but lies. I'm glad that this case was public, because the media would have fucking trashed Johnny and we would have been none the wiser outside of rumors after the fact.

Hearing that recording made me so frustrated, upset and angry. Not just because of her condescending tone of voice, but because of what it represented; girl abusers KNOW that they're more likely to be believed if they deny accusations of abuse. And men? They're less likely to be believed. Or even taken seriously. That recording made me mad because I have never been believed for my abuse. Especially not the abuse I've suffered at the hands of women. So for him to actually win this? Not only am I shocked, but for once, I feel less alone in this issue. Johnny Depp has started a movement for male abuse survivors. Thank you for having the bravery to tell the world, Depp. First you, and now, hopefully many more.

funny thing is that they literally can not both be abusers, atleast not towards each other. the whole thing about abuse is an inbalance of power and control in a relationship. if one is an abuser that is the one who has more power and control in the relationship therefor making the other one not able to be an abuser since they can not both have more control than the other in the relationship

The whole schtick about cases like this making it harder for people to believe female victims of abuse is bullshit, because the real irony is that publishing the thought "yeah, she's lying, but we should defend her anyway" does way more to hurt abuse victims. Because if that publication later releases information about an abuse case, do you think people will trust them? They're outright saying they'll take the woman's side either way, so I can't speak for everyone but I certainly wouldn't. And what if they're the ones to break the story, and it's actually true? Then there'd be people distrusting it because it comes from an untrustworthy source, all because they want to defend an abuser for the sake of sexist optics. It's fucking asinine, man. If you want to help victims of abuse, then help _victims_. Even if you're going to be biased, just be silent in cases like that; harming your own credibility just leaves an avenue for attack against any true story you might later publish.

As someone who came from an abusive household (my dad was a violent alchoholic), I genuinely hate how the media is portraying this verdict, saying shit like "oh yeah it's really bad for women who get abused" "some women are retracting their statements for fear of a future defamation case" "we've gone so many steps back for dealing with domestic violence" "this has had a massive impact on the me too movement" and shit like that. As if Jhonny Depp being abused wasn't even real. I genuinely despise how Amber has been made out to be this fucking brave hero, fighting for abused women everywhere, like this was a huge blow to victims of domestic abuse. As a victim myself; I don't fucking claim her. It makes me so fucking angry that people don't believe men are also victims of domestic abuse, shame on everyone who is ignorant enough to support Amber Heard and her stupid fucking joke of a legal team. I'm glad that this case will now give some men the confidence to speak up about their experiences, we need to support everyone who has gone through this kind of violence in future.

Honestly part of the reason Amber’s lawyers were embarrassed so thoroughly is most likely because Amber was so stubborn on her defense. If they had gone for a route of minimizing the slander lawsuit amount, it would have been a much more respectable defense. However, Amber most likely insisted on portraying herself as absolutely innocent, hence the debacle.

"Inflame" is a word with the "in" with the sense of a metaphorical movement into flames, so "Inflammable" is something that is prone to getting inflamed, or moving into flames. It's unfortunate but perfectly valid that "in" is also used to negate a word fairly often. "irregardless" is not a case of that, its only in dictionaries because that particular linguistic mistake made it into the populace and therefore was used often enough to replace it's more logical and understandable "regardless".
