I love this riff! Johny Marr knows how to write a killer riff. As far as I know this was the first thing he played to them before he joined the band.

Haha I heard that too! I’m pretty sure he asked to use one of Isaacs dusty unused guitars because his wasn’t going to be able to cut through Isaacs guitar style lol

It’s true! I read his book and he used one of Brock’s guitars, this was the first thing he played on it, and then he liked the guitar so much that he kept playing jaguars and jazzmasters.

it’s crazy that he’s barring the high strings and still getting his thumb around the e string. or maybe it’s not, being that i’m using an acoustic guitar. i’ve been trying to nail this for days

I don't think it gets much clearer than a fairly close up shot of the mans hands who actually wrote the guitar rift. It's not to hard to play along and figure it out and you know you're getting the real deal, not someones interpretation.

There are lots of technically excellent guitarists. But most of them, including Mr. Earwicker, don't write riffs like this.
