@@bigbry8 the gist of the story is that he played that opening riff writing his own song. Billy Duffy heard him playing it and mentioned Raw Power. Johnny was almost offended, James Williamson?! , it's my song! He was curious and bought the album, and when Gimme Danger started he couldn't believe that it was almost exactly the same as his little riff. James Williamson immediately became one of his favourite players.

@galetinm
11 ай бұрын
Rick Beato mentioned Johnny in a video of his favourite guitar players as the very last one, sort of like in the passing, in the same group as The Edge. He and Marr don't have very much in common, he likes that 70s macho hard rock Marr dislikes. There was a repost of a Johnny Marr interview a couple of days ago in Guitar Player magazine from the early 90s where he says that players like Yngwie Malmsteen should be forgotten as soon as possible, and even if he said that 30 years ago when he was young, the same day it was reposted there was an Yngwie Malmsteen interview on Ricks channel.

He's a great guitarist, but there are far better players technically. However, what sets Johnny apart is that he's first and foremost a frigging awesome musician. His riffs and melodies will be played, sang, and danced too long after the likes of Malmsteen & Vai have left the planet. His reach is far greater. He's a legend. Enough said.
