RIP Andy, your the reason I decided to learn the bass. You wrote the most beautiful melodic bass lines.

same... spent hours poring over his basslines and trying to play along at half speed (and eventually normal speed). what a loss.

Poor Andy. You can see he's not in great shape here. What a lovely memory for Johnny. It's a pity they never buried the hatchet for a reunion tour.

Absolutely brilliant bass player, so melodic and he was the same with all his musicianship with the Smiths and beyond. Often bass players get overlooked but generally because they just play bass and keep the rhythm going but Andy Rourke added so much more than that and this and other Smiths songs wouldn't have been as great as they are without him. RIP Andy, much loved now and always, what you did to so many people's lives with your talent is beyond words. x

Like all the great bands, the whole if the Smoths was greater than the sum.of its parts. Each member was a quirky, one of a kind musical wonder. The interplay between Johnny' s guitar and Andy's bass fills is absolutely one of a kind. RIP, sir

I'm sorry he's a great guitarist /songwriter but he's weak as a singer ... typical guitarist who wants to sing ... he's not like Ian Brown ... he's sort of pitched but he's forgettable... nothing like Morrisey
