One of JOK's best-ever songs. Great lyrics (listen closely) !! Great to see this original footage of him performing in the TV studio. Sallie6 : you deserve a medal !! Thanks. JOK was the real pioneer of Oz rock 'n' roll music, our first-ever genuine 'rock-star' .. and boy could he get a crowd going when he performed live (often with the Delltones backing-up). JOK opened a lot of doors for many later Oz artists to come. He killed 'em at Sunbury in 1972, when no-one thought he could.

Great stuff, never heard of him but we never even hear the good old music from this period in the states, not even on the oldies stations, let alone music from this period from other countries, Indo-rock etc. It's a shame, this is top notch rock and roll! It is cool though, now with youtube it's suddenly available to everyone and being discovered anew by all generations, garnering a whole new appreciation for what might have been forgotten entirely. Thanks for posting this!

I had an old newspaper clipping that we found when pulling up old lino in the kitchen. There was an ad in it for a show at the Newcastle Civic Theatre (I think off hand about 1954) The main act was Judy Robertson, who was the first person to sing RnR in Australia and JO'K was her supporting act. not much has been written about Judy, a little women with a big voice. It's a pity that pioneers like here haven't received the acculades that they deserve.

kylieslpe, your 22 years old, you have almost NO music these days[i played in bands for years, and all the venues are now "pokie" joints! you have NO live music shows and there is not the real talent around that there once was. JOK was a great entertainer who worked extremly hard to "make it" I saw him live in '73 at festival hall, he backed up Bill Hailey they were great, but he was better! After that i got in to music, he was "Special"! Thanks for music, Mr JOK.

Oh, well since you put it that way, I apologise. I misunderstood what you meant by what you said. JO'K became great friends with Buddy Holly and the Crickets when they toured here in 1958, and in fact, J.I Allison, Buddy's drummer, recorded a version of Johnny's song 'Wild One' with Buddy singing back up.
