Johnny Otis was one of the pioneers of rock and roll and R&B. He was a producer, singer, and musician who helped launch the careers of many major artists, including Etta James, Big Mama Thorton, Jackie Wilson, Johnny Ace, Little Willie John, and Hank Ballard, just to name a few. He played vibraphone, piano, and drums. In addition to producing and playing music, Johnny Otis also was a DJ and a preacher. He is best known for his 1958 hit Willie and the Hand Jive. Many called him the Godfather of Rhythm and Blues. He passed away at age 90 in 2012. For more information, you might want to check out the excellent biography in Wikipedia.
