Paycheck was one of the greatest raw talents ever. He was a man with so many natural blessings who seemingly did everything he could to squander them. As if he couldn't help himself and that in his heart he felt like he didn't deserve anything good in life. How is that possible with all those hits that he died broke? George Jones had to pay for his burial.

Prison sometimes, to somebody that thinks back, is extra clarity. I was an extreme addict cooking meth shooting meth. It wasn't what I was doing to myself, it was what I was doing the other people. I was destroying families. Shooting dope with people that had children. When I finally sobered up it broke my heart. People would tell me they will just get it somewhere else. Not from me, never again.😞.

So if he did this in 85, then he got pardoned 2 years later, that would be 87, he said after that he quit drinking, smoking and doing any drugs for 10 years, so that means this interview was set in 1997. Am I correct anyone? Still, amazing story, I can't believe how bad it must have been for him to almost go to prison for 9 years and probably never return to a career he worked for decades to achieve, but luckily he had support from all of the fellow artists in the industry and that says alot about the time back then compared to now. Johnny was one of the good ones, country music will never be the way it was when he was singin. R.I.P. Johnny paycheck.

He was sentenced in 1985 but he appealed the sentence for four years until his appeal options ran out in 1989. He was sent to Chillicothe, Ohio's prison in 1989 and he was in prison until Richard Celeste, then the Governor of Ohio, commuted the sentence in 1991. If the commutation from the Governor wouldn't have happened Johnny would've gotten released in 1994.

Here is the story I heard Johnny had been on a cocaine bender and had been up for days. He stopped to drink and 2 drunk men recognized him and offered to buy him a drink then they exchanged hats. Then the guys offered Johnny turtle soup. Johnny in his cocaine psychosis thought the guys were making fun of him for being a hillbilly so johnny shot one in the head. As one of the guys was running away outside Johnny went outside and yelled come back Jim I won't shoot you no more. Johnny picked up the bloody hat threw the gun away and drove off. My story might not be 100% right for one thing i don't remember the victim's name but it's probably closer to the truth than johnny's story.

I heard Paycheck and the man he shot were arguing about the best way to make turtle soup. The victim called Paycheck a damn hillbilly so Paycheck pulled out his gun and shot him. Cigarettes are worse than liquor and other drugs legal or otherwise put together - and to think about all of the people who has been in jail or had their lives ruined because they were deemed "criminal" for smoking weed - unbelievable - who keeps pushing this false narrative ? Well here in KY you can bet your ass Brown Foreman Distillery and the big tobacco companies has fed millions of $$ to political figures thru lobbying efforts - local and national - you can bet your ass they don't want to compete with weed - so keep it illegal - the cartel wins , lawyers win and the people who run the penitentiary system win- it's a win win win
