Very valuable videos, simple, pleasant, very understandable ,no "big-shot" talking,many-many thanks for sharing. I'm for the belief too ,that turning around the leaf valves totally OK.even so,that ,all official literatures speak against it .Very good point is the "ground issue" after paint work, which is very often overlooked. Thanks again!

Great job once again...especially on the reed plate. I did see light through the reeds as you described and was going to do exactly as you described but really was not sure... but now...I am. Thanks again and it is by far the best video I think I will ever see on this subject..

NEVER>>>flip your reeds over. Doing this fatigues them and they can break off and get sucked into the crankcase. Also...a little bit of light shining thru is okay provide you can't slip in a 10 thousands feeler gauge. It is important to have the reeds just touching the reed plate. You don't want them pressed up tight nor a big gap...just barely touching is the goal.

I noticed you have wire brushed all your fasteners. The originals were coated with yellow zinc. Yellow zinc is 6 times better than regular zinc plating. By wire brushing all the yellow zinc off, you are now left with a plain steel bolt. This, of course, has zero corrosion protection. Therefore, part of your regular maintenance will be to ensure the protective pain finish over these bolt heads remains intact.

never preload reeds to close. I did that on a mercury would not run....Had to be off seat slightly. Also on these 7.5-15 the water tube from pump has a grommet under power head that would swell closed causing overheating. I worked at dealer in 1980s had to warranty dozens . That was salt water use. Otherwise good motors

what kind of gasket sealer you using on head gasket.ive noticed lots of guys like to use sealing compound.they make lots of kinds at auto parts.so what is difference and why you use some looks like aircraft sealent on two studs in middle of powerhead that pulls it together then use anti-seize on rest.why? id say it wld be safe using any anaerobic sealent on most all this wouldnt it.its aircraft grade im sure you know the kind that cures when air is pushed out.works great on putting cases of motercycles back together and high tech things like aluminium.thank you.

Well, sometime you'll get a new gasket, and its stamped 'use no sealant' In those cases, I use nothing. In others, I use the manual recommended 'Gasket Sealing Compound' Manual calls for sealant on those center bolts as well. On the powerhead, only place called for anaerobic sealer is on the crankcase halves.

What great videos you've put together - thank you!! So I have a question about the small gaps in the reeds you point out in this video. I have a 88 9.9 that has major higher speed hesitation/misfire. I'm the third owner of this otherwise pristine motor that no one has been able to make go fast. We have gone through all the typical fuel starvation moves (carb, fuel pump, hoses, tank) to no avail. We also swapped ignition stuff. Have you ever seen a vacuum loss issue or can this reed issue possibly cause this type of symptom? Runs beautiful up to about 40% output. If you let it cough along for 8-10 seconds you'll get a blast of full throttle then it will start to surge wildly.

dont use that on those gaskets.less off that you use with good gaskets you dont need it.antiseize is one thing with purpose.and that sealer you dont need only if you dont use one.it primarily is just holding a gasket while you line it up.just like triple guard grease.yeah its good, but so is many other moly type and water resistant greases.if you have ever worked on motorcycles-2 stroke then there you have it.little different for sure but if you have good gaskets your good.sealing case is just like they say use only scotch guard like the old.yeah its good but so is anaerobic that you can buy at parts store.the aircraft type is for aluminum and seal motorcycle cases with it metal to metal.work and sets up when oxygen is pushed out.good enough for aircraft its good enough for boat case.ive been spending tons of cash on all this sealents and other uncalled for stuff, shoot i could buy another boat,LOL but common sense is an art.anti-seize,yes i use it on everything, like studs on car wheels.just a little.brakes anything you will take back apart.but i have 20 tubes of stuff and your lucky if they dont go bad or half goes bad before you re-use.now 1 item by locktite is locktite 680.it can add surface area to places where melal seals are pressed in and its greenit make up about 10,000 on metal part of seal and can be added to where seal will seat several times.but remember it makes up for 10,000 so with these after-market seals i always check because if you notice very hard to remove but go in real easy.thats because new seals are not what they used to be.and if seat is oxidized you sand and metal is lost and this will en-sure good tight fit and wont leak.sorry for long wind.just hate seeing all i lost on un-needed stuff like i have.the products may be good but not totally needed.the old books dont use it.just newer.market strategy

Something i dont understand, this motor is 216ccm and only 15 small and weak hp,there is an alot of things to do with the cylinder block, porting milling drilling more porting bigger reads bigger dual intake lght flywheel better ignition cstom exhaust better flow in/outlet, think there s room to take ut 60-80% more out of those
