Why would you run it without water to cool it? 3:50 PM 6/22/2023

Engine never had time to overheat or even warm up. Longer tests are conducted in the barrel.

I don't know about that, after you ran it then revved it twice it was definitely warm! And the impeller was running dry!

@@dennisfalan1623 I do. I have ways of monitoring engine temperature and egt. I did a much longer test in the barrel after this. again, no overheating. I also, replaced the impeller shortly after the long test run. So, I didn't worry about damaging the old one.......I have heard this argument against dry run many times yet have never seen an engine fail or damaged because of quick test run on the stand..........I have seen them burn up after running with clogged water intake or stuck thermostat in a lake. It still to 30 minutes or more to overheat. The impellers and gear box seals seem to often be neglected Maintenace items on these old motors. Some appear not to have ever been serviced in the past 50 years and are full of grit. Yet, they still run. It takes a lot of sustained abuse to kill one of these off.

@@sportsmansalvagecompanyinc7932 Right, I have repaired and sold a lot of these OMC 9.5's I have 4 that I need to get to work on now. Myself I have seen them destroy perfectly good impellers by running them dry, and for me I almost always have them peeing hot water seconds after start up I have also had to get them back to the ramp after impeller failure and for me they don't get far before they stall out from overheating just saying, that has been my experience.

@@dennisfalan1623I agree. Don't run these beauties unless they are wet.
