There's some solid recommendations here! Maximum the Hormone is super heavy, super weird, and a ton of fun. I'd also throw in my vote for The Hu.

Congrats on the growth of the channel! It's been a lot of fun to watch. I don't know if you've seen David Heretic's channel, but he's another old-school rock/metal guy who focuses on honest reactions. He just passed 50k subscribers, so there's definitely an appetite for it. I think you're in for a fun and wild ride. My one piece of advice is to keep an open mind, and I mean that more than the usual phrase. I'm also an older punk/metal guy, and in our lifetime, music has changed pretty fundamentally. Because everything is connected now, everyone is exposed to every type of music across the world. This has led to what I think of as "the death of genre." BABYMETAL is a perfect example. As you listen to new music, try to think less in genre categories and more in genre elements. It's really helped me to appreciate the newer stuff. On that note, here's my first recommendation/request if you haven't heard him already: Ren. He's another "death of genre" artist. His fanbase is just as fierce as BABYMETAL's, but also just as kind. Check out "Hi Ren" by Ren. Don't start with anything else. After that, there's a diverse, but unfortunately small catalog, as his breakthrough came out a just over a year ago. Oh, and don't you dare watch any BABYMETAL for the first time without us!!! 🤘🦊🤘

I was in the same boat as you i am a huge DC and Maiden etc fan(55 years old) but metal was all becoming much the same and while i liked some of the modern metal there was nobody who really consistently stood out among the pack until i seen these 3 Japanese girls at Sonisphere in 2014 with the Kami band make Slayer look tame and win over the UK metalheads. A true life changing moment who said metal has to be dark and moody all the time though i always feel sorry for Ghost and Anthrax as they had to follow these girls and i can imagine them in the back swearing their heads off about how are we meant to follow that lol 🦊

Nice! Here are a couple of Babymetal songs with similarities: BABYMETAL DEATH (Legend 1997) / Metallica - One (...The intro is dead on) Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014) / Slipknot - Sic (...but cute...) Pa Pa Ya!! (Official) / System of a Down - Pictures (a poppier version, may be a stretch? lol) Road of Resistance (Official Live) / Dragonforce (Not sure if you are a power metal fan, but Herman and Sam were directly involved with the song, even played the guitars for their studio recording). 🤘🦊

I'm so looking forward to seeing his reaction to "Road of Resistance"! I second the recommendation for the "(Official Live)" version. I love BABYMETAL's current era, but for that one, the 2015 performance is iconic.

All these Japanese all female bands rebooted my interest in new music. I more or less stopped listening to new music 25 years ago (I'm 56), I'm not sure why, I think I got bored by new music, I found most new bands and artists boring and uninteresting. However, I discovered BABYMETAL already when the "Gimme Chocolate" video was uploaded to KZitem in 2014. I also watched Band-Maid's very first video, "Thrill", when it was released in 2015 - but I thought it was just five pretty models doing a Milli Vanilli ...! Then, during the pandemic, when I was holed up in my apartment, I suddenly discovered lots of Japanese bands, thanks to the wonders of algorithms and recommendations. I realized that Band-Maid is a real band - and one of the best damn bands ever! (And "Thrill" is an awesome song.) I've haven't been this passionate about a band in 40 years! And then there's Lovebites, Nemophila, Trident, Hanabie, East of Eden ... And fun punk bands such as Otoboke Beaver and Dizzy Sunfist, and lots more. However, for every good Japanese band I discover, there are ten bad ones. Lots of studios in Japan try to create a new BABYMETAL, and most of these creations suck.

Was wondering if you would like a Band called Heilung from Denmark/Sweden. That not Heavy Metal in general. It could be more described as Heavy Stone. But before starting with Heilung, there a two more bands to try out before. Euzen and Valravn, both bands are connected to Heiling. And for japanese Metal, there is a rabbithole called the Destrose connection. A lot of good stuff originated from the band Destrose. Looks like you like BabyMetal. Nice Band for sure. It is actualy a combination of two genres. The Metal genre combined with Idol. That Idol stuff can be hard to get into. But there is something, thats called Alt Idol, or Alternative Idol, that also uses Metal elements. Right now i enjoy Groups like Mercuro (マーキュロ), Misola de Edison (ミソラドエジソン) and MAD MEDiCiNE, who have a new Music Video out, i really like. The Titel is アリス心中 / Arisu shinjū Or Alice Suicide in englisch

@@HeadbangersGuild If you react to a live, I would step carefully on YT as there are a number of really bad compilations which are compiled footage of various concerts. Usually if it doesn't give the concert in the title. The most common full concerts on YT for now are: PIA Arena 2023, Legend 1997, and Budokan 2014. Then there are less reacted to ones like Legend 1999, and Makuhari Messe 2023 (no one really uploads much of MM23 though) as well. There is a possibility that Legend MM on the 10th of this month gets the same treatment to allow them on YT, but it's unknown. Then there are compilations of concerts that look seamless because they stitched together multiple similar shows together to get past copyright such as Fox Festival 2017, and some of the Budokan 2021. Then there are zoomed ones where they take footage from those concerts that don't have identical performances use upscale and zoom to try to get them on YT, so the footage looks a bit low quality.

@@HeadbangersGuild Don’t worry if you ever run out of BabyMeta, there is always Sakura Gakuin, Karen Girls and Tween. The Fox Hole is much deeper than it can look at first glance. Susuka has been performing on stage since she could barely hold a microphone, and at 26 she is a 20+ year veteran.

@@HeadbangersGuild 🤣 Most likely. However given your musical tastes, I'm sure there will be a number of Babymetal songs you may not like, they are quite varied, some are super heavy, some are super poppy, some are very prog, and start/stoppy, and some are straight out of the left field, lol. But who knows, that's the fun in the exploration, right? I do think you will enjoy Rondo of Nightmare. Be sure to do the Budokan 2014 version with the band intro (and avoid any compilations where possible).

Jinjer.....gotta hear Jinjer if you haven't yet. Everyone usually starts with Pisces...just go in cold. No previewing for best effect. I found them on KZitem and they have become my favorite band almost instantly. I guess they are technically classified as djent. Call them whatever you want....they change it up so often there is no genre they can fit in.

I'm in the same boat as you....grew up in the 80's/90's. Okay, maybe I started with pop (listened to whatever my older sister did) and then worked my way up to rock, hard rock, then some industrial, and finally metal. Metallica, Maiden, Priest, Disturbed, Pantera, Manson, White Zombie. But now I've been looking to expand. I can recommend Unleash the Archers, In this Moment, Bloodywood (if you're up to some Indian folk metal.....definitely worth a listen!). I've just discovered Kittie as well with their new album Fire. Going to see them next week. You've already found Babymetal (I only really started listening to them in the last month and got hooked there too.) Hanabie is opening for Jinjer in September so I had to give them a listen.

You have already started looking at Japanese all female metal bands. They exist in a shocking quantity and a wide variety of styles. Here are a couple of suggestions: NEMOPHILA - They do som cool Maiden covers, and their own songs like Dissention is geat. HANABIE - Be the GAL~Early Summer ver. (A metal summer song 🙂) / Pardon Me, I Have To Go Now

You hit gold with Babymetal but there are many other good metal bands in Japan if you want to branch out, for example Hanabie, Nemophila, and Maximum the Hormone. Lots of people like Band-Maid. but most of the time their songs are more hard rock than metal.

The original drummer of TRiDENT, JUNNA @junna1149 who is no longer with the band, is worth checking out on her own. GIRLFRIEND - FULL HOUSE MUSIC VIDEO -Full ver.- or ミライリスト MUSIC VIDEO, @GIRLFRIENDGF unfortunately disbanded a few years ago. The Bass player for GIRLFRIEND, MINA @mina-bass, is world class. She's incredibly talented and has her own channel.
