After watching Jojo and Elsa dance the audience into the credits to the tune of David Bowie, Jojo Rabbit instantly became my favorite movie of 2019. Taika Waititi's humor never misses with me, and Jojo Rabbit contains countless laugh-out-loud scenes; but it's the themes of the film and how they're presented that makes it standout in our cynical culture. The essential theme of Jojo Rabbit is learning how to care for the people you're supposed to hate. Because of our tribal nature, turning foes into friends can be an excruciating process, but the first step must begin with turning the other cheek.
