I think it's the best trailer yet and potentially, it might be an oscar nominee overall. There are two symbolism scenes that I found it most fascinating: from the beginning, Arthur was walking up the stairs, struggling to be a better individual and trying to fit into the society, even though he wasn't naturally succeeding and the very last scene was Arthur walked down the stairs as he fell into insanity and accepted the harsh reality as everything was a joke to him than being positive and became what defined him as the Joker. This is probably something Batman can't understand what is like to be in the street that Arthur lived and dealt with on a daily basis, since he's luckily the industrialist multi-millionaire. The Batman's philosophy was obviously black and white as he go along, while the Joker's philosophy, however, was terrifyingly grey and more accurate as it's relevant today. Just remember in the comic book, the Joker's backstory was never revealed, that included the Killing Joke storyline as he was an unreliable narrator about his past because the Joker preferred to have "multiple choice." Whether the Joker fell into the vat of chemical or not, this movie is acceptable.

@bluesman6891
5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes, it is indeed a sad trailer and possibly relatable in every scenes as it reflected the reality but I reckon it's going to be a great film and seeing the trailer felt almost as it's addressing a political message during the riot. Hypothetically speaking, something tells me that this film is going to display a "cautionary tale," which is a perfect role for the Joker's origin to say the very least because it could be the reason that drove him into madness under the influence of social unrest, pessimism or the people in the combination who constantly bullied him until he psychologically sink in. This happened to some people who mentally gave in and I think the Joker is going to represent that in this particular film. @@Nubesitas001
@ori7647
5 жыл бұрын
@@bluesman6891 So... Maybe you could say that the "chemical vat" this time is not a concrete object, that the joker just so happens to fall in, but in fact... Society itself? Coz, ya know... At every scene, you just get that overall feeling that this is a terrible, and toxic life. In fact, this could be read on a much more darker interpretation of the joker's origin story, not even a version, but an interpretation. By that, I mean, it's not only his "wife" that he loses, like in the killing joke, but his loved ones, his connection to the world, even his sense of identity. HELL, there is even a scene where a voice (I believe it to be the voice of thomas wayne?) straight up say that whoever did that act (possibly a violent crime) could only be a someone that hides behind a mask, and in the next shot we see the joker putting the mask he was using on the trash, perhaps as to simbolize that, from that moment on, It's not that arthur is passing as the joker, but that the joker is passing as Arthur, and thus, the joker is born. Something else that gets my attention is just how much fragile the joker seems. I don't only mean that he looks fragile psychologically, but he almost seems like someone with a eating disorder. But at the same time, his home almost always appear dirty, as if he has intense problems with self care and with his image, possibly. But he seems to almost fully embrace the joker, more then just a performance, when he's face to face with him in the mirror. This trailer is not just packed with references, but enough nuance suggesting the breakdown of the character, and the birth of someone with a twisted mentality. To be honest, this almost even seem too relatable, like a psychologist actually could have been consulted in order to help create this kind of character.

Yes that is Bruce he makes smile but this movie isn't set in the DCEU at all nor is it connected to it at all, he is NOT a proto joker he IS the joker, this is just a stand alone one and done elseworlds tale that is a character study on how the joker came to be, it's a gritty grounded realistic take on mental illness and the affects of toxic society on a broken and ill man who becomes the joker, Todd Phillips (the movies director) already stated this is not canon or connected to the DCEU one bit, it's just simply one of joker's multiple choice way he remembers his past and is set on an alternate earth, similar to Gotham or New 52

This is a stand alone movie set in the 1980s and is also being touted as an else worlds story and is not set in the DCEU continuity at all. The man on the the tv is Thomas Wayne, the child he makes smile is Bruce Wayne, and yes Zazie Beets (Domino Actress) is indeed his love interest she's a cynical single mother that is struggling which is super accurate considering you mentioned the red hood origin, which is called The Killing Joke, in which he has a pregnant lover who is killed along with his unborn child which is part of the reason he becomes the joker, as well as being framed by his criminal associates to go down for the red hood job and then beaten and dropped into a vat of chemicals by batman, which this movie draws on from a bit but doesn't follow to a T, it only draws some inspiration from it, as well as many other of his multiple choice "origins". The director stated this is not canon and is not a definitive origin story because the joker does not have an origin, it's just one of the many ways he "remembers" his "origins" just like he says in the novel you mentioned..."if I'm to have a past I prefer it to be multiple choice". This is not a comic book movie, it's a tragedy and character study about a weak and broken man with mental illness who is beaten and broken by life and society and documents his spiral into insanity and villainy in an extremely grounded, realistic, sad, twisted, dark, violent and gritty character study on the effects of mental illness and social commentary on a society, not unlike ours, that chews up normal decent people and spits them out damaged and dishevelled. In a realistic take a vat of chemicals would straight up kill you or leave you comatose, disfigured and barely clinging to life, not turn your skin white, lips red and hair green, so while he may not be created by toxic waste he is still indeed created by toxicity...a completely toxic and vile society....I hope that helps create a better picture of where this stands and what it's about 😁😁😁 btw awesome reaction video!!! I loved the trailer. Its haunting and chilling. Phoenix looks like he was born to play The Joker. The movie is obviously using a different origin story. I think that the character at the start has some empathy towards him. Judging by the trailer, he's devoted (looking after) to his mother, bullied and called a freak. I'm sure that this has been a regular occurance for Arthur and finally he snapped. Now of course I'm sure his actions will be unforgivable. But to me, this movie gives an understanding as to why he went crazy. Instead of criminals/heroes making The Joker, Gotham (in this) made The Joker. A truly fantastic trailer. Roll on October 3rd. 🤡

As a Fan of the Joker I really REALLY Love how they made this trailer and cannot wait for the Movie to come out..! I Also Love How they picked Joaquin Phoenix to play this Role..! Personally I Think that he was made to play this Role..! Heath gave us a phenomenal performance, one that was very hard to out top.! Also I think that if Jared Leto would of had more screen time, he would of also gave us an awesome Joker. What I think Jered Leto was trying to bring was The Very first Joker played by Cesar Romero who was like a Gangster Joker and a Comedian Villain at the same time, but because he didn’t have enough screen time, that really couldn’t allow him to bring that kind of Joker, also I think Jared would of brought us a great performance if he did have the screen time. Also Jack Nickelson brought us another great Joker with the catch phrase, “You ever dance with the Devil in a Pale moon light”, that one will also never be forgotten to this very day. But on another review, one that is missed by many, which I think is an Easter egg, is when Joaquin makes the kid smile, the kid is actually Bruce Wayne when he was a kid. In one of the Batman movies you see the same young Bruce dressed the same with the same haircut, but I will leave that for all to go and watch the Batman movies to find him in. Anyway Love the Reviews on Joaquin’s Joker, cause Joaquin is a Great Actor, And he really brought The Joker in this movie, and for great actors to always have a persona that’s always changing and keeping people guessing all the time, is what makes a Great Actor. And that is why Personally I think he is a Great Actor with all the movies he’s made throughout his entire career, and with this performance I really believe he has another OSCAR on the way..! Cannot wait for the Joker movie to come out.! (((Peace))) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼😎🤘🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼💯✌🏼

Yea, it took me a while to digest the teaser and some of the layers. I'm pretty excited for the movie now. I can really feel the sadness in the whole teaser. Like you and others have said, he's trying hard to be good and fit in (make people laugh), but he keeps getting kicked and pushed down and he can't understand that, so he struggles and eventually breaks. That's heartbreaking because it's so real. This movie is probably going to be a heartrending descent into madness, and you might be made to empathize or sympathize with the "villain". I'm kind of glad they're going in the artsy direction with a new story in a new universe. It has the potential to be great.

With all due respect Heath ledger was mediocre at best as an actor. I am very exited about this movie Joaquin is awesome especially as a character actor which makes him uniquely qualified for a role like this. Whether the script is good remains to be seen - I am definitely sold for now :) Jack Nicholson was a great joker too - but looking back trying to block out nostalgia I actually feel he might had phoned it in a bit - the main reason the the 2 first movies were so great was the artistic style of Burton :) In my opinion anyway hehe

Joaquin Phoenix is type-cast now. He can no longer portray anyone but Joker.

The way they portrayed him in the trailer makes it look like he is slow. With how he writes and all that. Obviously the joker is extremely intelligent. It was just a thing we picked up on from the trailer.
