I really enjoy watching your videos and this one is probably the best one. Very well done and documented.

I have absolutely no idea why I watch this because I have never owned a boat like these you are testing. However, your videos are brief, descriptive, quite interesting and makes me want an aluminum boat with a15-25 hp motor.

It seems like these older evinrude/johnsons were faster than the post 1993, bigger ones... Or am I imagining things?

They are built to run higher rpms.

These are smaller engines. Only 216cc. The 1993-> are bigger. I believe 255ccm. Probably to compete with the Japanese 15s. They were 246ccm I believe. The 255ccm should have more torque and hp. But I don’t know. Love the small ones. Over 7000 rpm stock😎👍🏼 so small and light to!

I have a 14x37 WeldBilt Jon Boat with a 1996 Johnson 15hp electric start an she will only do 22-23mph the prop is a 9x11 the edges of the prop are little scuffed up. I'm curious if that is the stock prop I have an if so if I buy a new prop will I gain a little more speed? I would like to get it at 25-26mph.
@vojomatusenko

9x10 is stock propeller. Stuffed edges or even missing little chunks on the blades makes no noticeable difference in performance. My favorite propeller for these little motors is 9 pitch. I think your prop is just too fast for your boat and motor is not keeping up with it. Get 9 pitch one and you won’t regret. If you can find Stainless steel one don’t hesitate and spent extra $ on it.

@@vojomatusenko Everyone has their own opinion. I don't want to add or wear the motor out. I would either get a 9x11 or 9x10 but online I keep seeing 9 1/4 on Amazon. I have called the manufacturer an marine places to get information on what is the stock size prop an they tell me they don't know.

Hi there. I had at least 100 of these motors and all of them had 9x10 aluminum propellers. Only one of these motor came to me with SS 9x9 pitch prop and only one with 9x11 aluminum propeller. I kept both propellers and have them since. Love 9x9 , it’s most universal of all of them. You can put it on 9.9 HP motor and will get most performance out of it. You can put it on 15 HP and throw bunch of weight in Jon boat . Your boat is on heavier side and that’s why I recommend you 9 pitch one. Prop you have is for light weight Jon boats with no extra weight in them and that’s why you are not achieving 25 -26 MPH.

FlOutdoorsTV Not all 15 HP hit that speed. This motor was exceptionally strong. If you can find 11 Pitch SS propeller it may get you there in 12 footer.

Justin, I have an '85 Evinrude 15 hp that is marked 100:1 If you look it up on the different outboard / fishing forums a Lot of people recommend running them at 50:1 I just fired mine up today (new to me) and it has a bit of a weak water flow, 'gonna order the impeller tomorrow. good luck

Dear, I'm from Brazil, sorry for my English, okay? In 1992 there were two models, the head low like this one of the video and the rounded ones, a little stronger with more cc and another relation. What is yours? Do you have photos and videos of your engine? Here it is very difficult to find a helix other than 9 1/2 x10 and 9x11. What did you feel when using step 8? What improvements and worsens did you get?
@vojomatusenko

Henrique, here in USA I never came across with that other model you mentioned with more round cowling, and I have seen many of these motors and they always look just like one in this video.
