movieguy, How in the world did I not heard of this joint?....I lived in Okc in those years. I heard the name Barefoot Servants through Leland Sklar videos; he speaks highly of them. Jon Butcher is a treasure indeed, he truly is a wonderful artist. Thank you filming it, came out pretty good.

All I can figure is this cat must not have had the sharpest management - saw him @ the Bacchanal n San Diego around this time promoting Pictures From the Front, great album, absolutely rocking concert, packed like sardines. No reason why he should not have been playing @ the Fox theater or CIVIC Center at that time. This is definitely my favorite period of his career, great songs and fine band

Wishes & Pictures From the Front, were marketing (by the label) in the R&B Sections of all record stores, because of a black guy on the front of the album. It was the stupidest thing ever done... Back in that time period (pre-Living colour, post Jimi Hendrix) if you were a black artist, they would not market you at a rock artist... all the so called A&R people thought that if you were black, black people were the only audience for you... This stupid myth, didn't help Jon Butcher any he was out there rocking audiences everywhere, and couldn't break out, because his labels were idiots. He was a part of the huge Boston scene, along with Boston and Areosmith, but you wouldn't hear about him... they (record labels, managers etc.) did not know what to do with him.... but we guitar players knew who he was... he went on to a successful career writing music for film productions.

I agree with that definitely overlooked and he was just as good as any playing that style love pictures from the front not a bad song on that record

Somewhere before the Wishes album, Jon found his true voice, and suddenly this man was on fire with every lyric and chop. Pairing him with a Stevie Wonder/Jeff Beck piece almost isn't even fair.

Did JB ever play with Thin Lizzy? Phil Lynott died way too young. I don't think I ever got over it.
