Jon Cryer said in an interview that it was supposed to be Duckie. They filmed it and everything, but they later filmed an alternate ending (with Blaine) because people didn't feel comfortable with it. Because he seems effeminate, even though he's straight, they found it weird at that time for someone like Duckie being with a girl like that. Which is such BS!

I read somewhere that the original ending has her and Duckie together - but they ended up re-filming a differnet ending where she ends up with Blaine. At the time that they re-filmed, Andrew McCarthy had already been working on another film and had cut his hair - the last scene's of Pretty in Pink, you can see that Andrew is wearing a wig.
@AJ17_
9 жыл бұрын
xyzangeel In the novel the movie was based on, Andie ends up with Duckie. They originally shot the end of the movie like this, but during test screenings, audiences hated it and wanted Andie to end up with Blaine. So they had to go back and re-shoot the ending. The original ending footage was supposedly found and was going to be included on the 25th anniversary DVD, but it mysteriously "disappeared" again so it wasn't included. However they did have a little footage from behind the scenes of the original ending being filmed so there's that I guess.

xyzangeel well yes. but Andie wasn't in love with Duckie. I don't like her with Blaine (god, he's boring), but I'm glad that Andie and Duckie didn't end up together as well. I love their relationship, and I'm glad that Andie didn't magically fall in love with him at the end, because that would be cliche. My fave part of the movie was the part when Duckie finally accepted that fact that Andie doesn't love him that way and he supports her for her decision. That shows that their relationship is special, even though it's not romantic, and I think that's beautiful.
@karenlacey4549
9 жыл бұрын
+Peacelover1212 Yes, because that is what growing up means. Childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies. Adulthood is the kingdom where we learn that everyone dies. What I find ironic about Pretty in Pink is how it didn't end up as the good sincere boy gets girl over entitled jerk because in the 1980's no one would accept the nerd/geek as hero. Yet, it is why Ducky doesn't get Andie romantically that makes these films good! It became more than geeky good person vs rich, insincere bad person fight for the girl. Ducky attempts to win Andie revealed what Blaine did not feel for her. It is also interesting to note how Andies pursuit of Blaine is even more misguided than Ducky trying to impress Andie. Ducky respects, likes and loves Andie he wants her because he loves her, he not trying to get one over on the rich guy or prove his worth by getting Andie to want him back, getting her to date him only so he can dump her. Andie's pursuit gains Blaine attention and affection is very much placed on proving herself as worthy to Blaine. It's a very much "Look see I'm pretty kind and smart, just let yourself get to know me then we can be happy together!" Andie is stuck in every beautiful teenage girl's situation proving her worth through her attachment to an equally attractive more successful young man. She is so focused on this she imagines a lot of feelings for herself that Blaine doesn't feel, interestingly Blaine does nothing to encourage her, he is rude and dismissive to the point of cruelty. Blaine is hated for being a callous entitled preppy, but what I like about him is demonstrates through actions and words that he doesn't want Andie. He seems to be trying to teach her this through put downs, ignoring her and showing her that he is sexually active with other girls who he does want. I like Andie she is kind, gentle and thoughtful but for me Pretty in Pink is a film that deal with telling our selves what we want to believe about how another person feels about us. rather than observing what a person's words and actions reveal to us about what they really feel and think about themselves. This film is also funny as it displays that none of the main characters are sure of who they are as people and what they want fro m life, they are consumed with projecting their sense of identity through love of a boy/girlfriend. Well we can accept teenagers thinking and behaving this way because they are teenagers. This film explains the reality of identity and society. Why is Ducky Ducky, or Andie Andie or Blaine Blaine they are all attempting to find their place in society and each has different options, roles and expectations of themselves and other people. So oddly enough, this film succeeds where so many romantic guy vs guy for girl fail is because each person was a whole person behaving within their beliefs and position at school and home. So many films today are just literally backwards the stereotypical good/nice guy vs bad/rude guy who fights for the girl so many people actually believe in the poison fairy tale which reduces people to simple cliché's films like this speak a noble truth while presenting the story without blaming or judging the people.

In my junior year of high school, we performed a murder mystery improv show with an eighties movie theme. I was cast as a character that combined elements of Duckie and Cameron Frye from _Ferris Bueller's Day Off._ This character was a stereotypical geek who believed he was much cooler than he actually was. One of the biggest scenes I had to perform was a dance scene in the middle of the show, which heavily resembled Duckie's iconic dance from the movie. To my surprise, the audience began cheering and clapping along to my ridiculous dance moves while _"Try A Little Tenderness"_ played. When the scene ended, I received a standing ovation from the entire crowd, and I received a lot of praise from my friends and family that night. I would like to express my gratitude to John Hughes, Jon Cryer and the rest of the _Pretty in Pink_ production crew for creating a memory that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Watched this film for the first time yesterday and I can't believe she didn't end up with Duckie, I know it would have been a bit obvious and the unrequited love storyline was fantastic but fuck Blaine!

Even though I really love that Andi and Blane get together at the ending... It's impossible to deny that Duckie was her soulmate... He was just not the right man for her. And this scene gives me life, everytimeeeeeeee.

Ferris Bueller could not have done it better. You ROCKED it Jon Cryer. Sorry you're now type cast as a co-star unlucky guy. It's not right. You ARE bigger than that role. Hope your agent gets you a great screenplay to read! Muah!

I'm glad he didn't end up with her, he deserves waaaay better. She was so blind to what she had in Duckie, looking for the cute guy all while Duckie would have given the shirt off his back to her. He deserved a girl that saw him and loved him more than she did.

CLASSIC scene. First saw this flick with my then-girlfriend when it was released 31 years ago. Still funny as hell, with Cryer's gyrations and how Ringwald and Potts react to them. Sweet slice of history as well. Check out all those vinyl albums --

Duckie is awesome. Definitely a true story here. This happens all the time. Good looking girl just has more options in life. While the guy who is creative and just spends too much time not working on his own personality but wasting time pleasing the woman he is infatuated with loses out. The best thing a guy can do in duckie situation. Is stay single and work on your career. And strike first. Don't wait months to tell her you love her or care about her or you like her romantically, tell her the first day. If she doesn't like you move on. Don't keep dropping your boundaries for her. Women like leaders. Don't be a follower.
