Please don’t be so piously self-righteous Erin. You can go ahead and harshly judge all CCMusic as “mostly sappy and fake”, as long as you make clear that you’re only voicing your personal opinion, which you don’t. You call yourself a Christian, which everybody and their brother can do, but if your definition of being a Christian is that everyone that doesn’t think and feel like you do is “mostly sappy and fake”, then it’s you that has a problem with God by confining him to a small box of your own design. You don’t know me, but I probably agree with you more than I disagree with you. But you’re sending out conflicting and church body divisive signals here, and that’s not good.

I want to thank you for this beautiful song. I've been listening to it on repeat for nearly two weeks now. It speaks so powerfully to the experience of being a Christ follower in America right now: the moments of anger, soul-weariness, and doubt ("coming to you cause I'm angry / coming to you cause I'm guilty"); the longing for God's justice to intervene ("didn't you swear you would feed them / tell me you won't make them go"); the weight of seeing how badly we've collectively failed to love people ("coming to you for the mothers / who are all running for cover / there is a flood from their weeping"). But, while the song doesn't dilute or downplay those realities, it also continually points towards our ultimate hope in God's faithful love ("you're building a city / where we arrive as immigrants / and you call us citizens / and you welcome us as children home"). I think you struck that balance so well: sitting with difficult truth but not giving into despair. Thank you for articulating this experience.

I have to confess I've been having a hard time knowing how to pray-except to cry out whenever I hear the latest news,"LORD make things right!!!" But THIS! It felt like the words I would have prayed if I had any idea how to put what's in my heart into words! The pain and anger, confusion and fear, heartache and longing. "Lord, make things right!" Thank you for this!!

Unlike all the other "trending" Christian songs on this topic, this is the first I've heard that points directly to Christ and to His kingdom as the only solution, instead of wallowing in white guilt or political solutions. Lately, I can't stand listening to Christian bands all putting in their 2 cents on this topic, but this... this is raw God-glorifying perfection.

Amen. much of the Christian church today is looking for a “hero” (Barabbas - Politicians) rather than looking TO the already victorious saviour. they’ve put far too much faith in this world, instead of looking up, where Christ is seated!

@@anmcvey311I could me wrong and am the type who is open to being wrong, but this is my interpretation of this line. It means if “love” is the standard we use to create rules, regulations or even social etiquette on, we all fall short and then are therefore “illegal” on this land which rules we try to live by. What’s your interpretation?
