@Slumerican Mystik like you're doing right now? A republic is any state not ruled by a monarch. A democracy could refer two things. 1. The first one is a system of government where the ruling body consists of the Demos (the citizens). The ruling body issues decrees, etc. Demos means people. Cratos means "to rule". Hence DemosCratos. 2. Democracy #2 Is an ideology (not a governing system) based on the core ideals of the governing system, also called Democracy.

@@doncollins7743 Agree. Literally today in my country an abusive dickhole of a father, that abused his children, got exposed only because he got caught doing so on a smartphone camera. From there it unravelled - punishments, psychological abuse, up to forcing them to eat from garbage a spoiled salami because daughter threw it out but he decided it is still edible "and in this house I say what goes". And all because he got caught hitting his six years old son on somebody else's smartphone video. What some people use for blackmail and repression others can use to save lives, pretty much.

@Nspnspker Literally a 'non-binding, advisory referendum' to see where the public stood on an issue that was twisted into an antiestablishment protest vote by rich wankers who don't want to have to deal with the EU's new tax evasion laws. I do believe there's an argument for leaving the EU, it's just most people don't know it. They spout the same inane, meaningless lines such as "take back control" and "Brexit means Brexit" because that's what they've been brainwashed to do by the people that actually benefit from leaving the EU. It's completely fine to have an opinion but the future of a country and union shouldn't be decided on the basis of emotions and ill-placed resentment, it should be decided based on facts and statistics and logic-based predictions. Unfortunately the majority of the UK has abandoned those principles. Luckily for me, Scotland has not.

@@sykessaul123 I don't think it was as simple as you paint it. For a lot of voters who are at the lower end of the socio-economic scale the vote was "The Status Quo" = Remain. "A roll of the dice." = Leave. Now when "The staus quo" means self employment, zero hours contracts, eat OR heat, feed the kids OR feed myself, pay day loan to get by for another month etc etc, Is it any wonder "Roll the dice." seemed attractive? One of the most abhorrent aspects of the whole shit show was watching the country tear itself in two with both sides treating each other like animals. *Neither* side showered themselves in glory yet here we are still tearing strips off each other. That said, the WORST thing out of all this was we actually considered suspending democracy because the result didn't suit. That, in my mind, was the far bigger crime because the freedom to choose also includes the freedom to make bad choices. The nation needs to learn the importance of voting, the importance of voting responsibly and *the ramifications of the vote whether the outcome is for better or for ill* If we end up on the shit pile for the next few decades then that's what we deserve because NO ONE treated the process with the care it required. Right from the moment Cameron decided to go ahead with it, up to, and including, the election in December. The country needs this lesson and it wasn't worth shitting on the democratic process to spare us from the consequences. If it hurts us, it hurts us. Then maybe we'll end up in a situation where the British really have to pull our collective thumbs out our arses and man the fuck up. NB. I didn't vote in 2016. Couldn't decide what was best between playing it safe (remain) or taking our chances on uncharted seas (leave) Let's be honest here, playing it safe, given the state of the European economy is only "safe" in very relative, shaky terms.

@sykessaul123
4 жыл бұрын
@Nspnspker I'll agree with that. I think the only way to update that would be to shock people out of their traditional media outlets. It happened with Scotland after the 2014 independence referendum where the blatent BBC bias/propaganda made a lot of people question the integrity of it and therefore all media. Now most Scottish people get their news and opinions from mixed sources not just the MSM, tens if not hundreds of startups have started stealing the spotlight and are talking about Scotland. Not just Scotland as a small part of the UK but as an actual country with it's people at the forefront of the journalistic picture and that's one of the most refreshing things after seeing Scotland being underappreciated and underrepresented for so long. England needs a wake up call. And it needs to recognise and embrace that wake up call instead of ignoring it. That's up to the people, not the media.
