I used to work near the old Jones Factory at Guide Bridge (there's now a modern brother factory on that site).

Great video! You have the clearest explanation in how to properly insert a bobbin and thread it into a bullet shuttle that I have ever seen. 👍

Gorgeous❤❤❤!!! Great instructions and great job on video. I found your channel because I recently purchased an 1899 Singer 28K hand crank from a seller on eBay, but the machine was damaged/broken during shipment at the one hinge pin hole underneath (among other damage that is more simple to fix). We needed a solution concerning repair. You have comments turned off on the video where you show how to repair this area with JB Weld. (The wire reinforcement was a great idea!) I think you came up with a super solution. I subscribed at that very moment. Just had to tell you this. We'll try this repair. Looking forward to watching your other videos when time allows.

I found one that... works 😅 I can tell that she is a Queen Alexandra but most of the paintwork is faded and she has rusted a little on the body but her inner workings are still functioning and my Grandparents have offered to help me restore her 😅😅😅

beautiful machine. I'm currently trying to touch up an old Jones machine with 'the turquoise tear drop decals. I've been watching your very helpful methods but I have a query. Before starting to add any paint you mention that the machine must be oil and grease free. What do you use to prepare the machine ?- obviously anything with alcohol would be a bad idea. The gold pen idea is great but getting the green colour is proving difficult.

I use hot soapy water, dip a towel wrapped around my finger in it so it's just damp and wash the machine one small area at a time. Then rinse with clear water. For areas with a heavy build up of oil, Krud Kutter of 409 can sometimes help, but be careful. These can burn through quickly and attack the artwork. After that, I polish it with Novus 2, a fine scratch remover. This shines the machine up and cleans the surface even more for painting. I've noticed that after several years, the gold pen color isn't stable. I now use gold colored bronze powder (Crescent Bronze's Rich Pale Gold) mixed 50/50 with clear shellac. To tint it, I use various colors of sharpie permanent markers taken apart and the ink squeezed out of the reservoir and into shellac. This creates a transparent, permanent paint that can be applied over the gold paint for color matching. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Hello Wayne! I'm hoping that you can help me. My wife's birthday is Jan 26th and I have from now till then to restore her grandmother's 1907 Singer (H1650404) sewing machine. I'm pretty good at the wood and regular painted iron parts of the table, but I have no idea how to restore the gold leaf decorations of the (in perfect working order) machine itself. Both her mother and grandmother who used the machine passed away last year and I would love to gift her a restoration of the machine. I'm good at most things, but gold filigree is not one of them (if that's even what was on this machine. Please let me know if you can help guide me. I am excited to learn a new skill... or if it's too much, at least watch someone do it.

Hello, and thank you for writing! I'll be happy to help all I can with your restoration. Before I start, I have to warn you that if you plan on repainting the machine and recreating the decals, you're looking at 100-150 hours of work. Most of that will go to making to decals the replace the transfers originally used to decorate the machine. It's a lot of tedious work, but the results can be great. To start, please watch the following video I made about making silver-backed decals, which almost perfectly match the transfers used when the machine was manufactured: kzitem.info/news/bejne/qYapqImPiaifZqQ Since making that video, I've switched to using Staz Stix Metallic Silver spray for the silver backing. Another change was using Duplicator's Acrylic Enamel Clear Coat for the protective clear overcoat. It's less prone to blistering the black base coat. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll answer them as soon as possible. Good luck!

You can't get the bobbin back in the shuttle? Or, you can't get the shuttle back in the machine?
