Joni is an artist of rare quality. Her songwriting is absolute genius. Her voice is warm and soothing. Her musical style is ageless. Any of you who cannot appreciate this lady and her music, well don't listen to it. It's not like Joni Mitchell needs your approval or anything else. She is not only loved and respected by her million of fans worldwide, she is also respected greatly among her peers. Bet none of you will ever be able to make that claim!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joni is my inspiration - I sang as a child, bought this single as a teenager (yeh makes me oldish!) At uni I learnt guitar & now sing & play in a couple of rock bands. I was asked to play solo for a fundraiser for the Royal Melbourne Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. So I brushed up this song - it got alot of applause and the crowd were all singing the "shoo, bah bah bap's" I love the warm fuzzy feeling of raising money for children and entertaining at the same time. Thank You Joni :-)

This is classic Joni Mitchell doing what she did best--write these amazing songs about the turbulent 60's and early 70's! She has created alot of great music through the years! I,m happy she sung background vocals on Dan Fogelberg's great song, "Nexus"! Peace and Love, BobbyK

You are so correct. If I absolutely love the music I will listen to the words once or twice, and then I play it over and over and hardly hear the words at all. Mitchell's chords and counter melodies and phrasing are so unique and so beautiful that she wouldn't need any words at all. Yet, she is one of, if not the best musical lyricist of the century in the eyes of David Crosby of CSN.

The Counting Crows added a band, orchestration, a a hip hop chorus, etc. and made a pretty good song out of a great song.. THey paid Joni a great compliment by porting her song to a younger audience. THese same young people, now, know who wrote this brilliant music, and in 50 years or so may be still watching Joni Mitchell on KZitem with glassy eyed stares of amazement.

On this day in 1974 {December 22nd} "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; and on February 9th, 1975 it peaked at #24 {for 1 week} and spent 10 weeks on the Top 100... This was a live performance of the song, her original version entered the Top 100 four years earlier on July 19th, 1970, it remained on the chart for 6 weeks and reached #67... At the time Joni's original version was on the chart in 1970 a group named Neighborhood had their covered version also on the chart; they entered on June 21st, 1970 and on August 16th, 1970 it reached #29 {for 1 week}... Ms. Mitchell, born Roberta Joan Anderson, celebrated her 70th birthday one month ago on November 7th...

She is Canadian, she has]d a number of top 10 hits here in canada in the seventies. Joni was probably bigger here in Canada than stateside, which is usually the case with Canadian artists...Bryan Adams being the biggest and best example of a Canadian artist that wasn't only big across the 49th but also overseas in Europe and Australia...it's called international stardom, something I don't believe Joni was able to pull off. Thx4 postin'

That was Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they ‘Paved paradise to put up a parking lot’, a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn’t quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song.

I know a few that do, but I know as many men that do. John Prine comes to mind. He wrote his songs in a certain key, nearly forty years ago, then his voice changed. Rather than relearn it all, he just capos at the 3rd to 5th fret. Nowadays he can't go on without his capo.
