My girlfriend and I in 1970 played this endlessly. I taught her to play guitar from this music, but, man, she could sing! Long, straight hair, miniskirt, knee boots, terrific smile. I wore Fairchilds, T-shirts and Levis, and a scraggly beard. Just a couple of "college hippies". Life was simple, and good. Music was great! It still is.

This music defined my life in the 70's. I was living in Sun Valley, Idaho, recovering from the loss of my boyfriend in a plane crash, and the music soothed my soul so many times when I was grieving. Her music, and that of John Denver, Seals and Croft and others was such a wonderful reflection of the 70's. It was such a simpler time than now, devoid of all of the craziness of today's world.

I can still clearly remember the first time listening to Ladies of the Canyon and how startled I was to hear her play the piano in such an already very personal way. Lightning does strike twice as in 98, I got to speak to her again at LAX baggage claim. I had JUST ordered her concert on my flip phone as back then you had to call DirecTV for pay for view and it was the last showing of her Universal Amphitheatre concert. I turned around and BAM there is Joni looking in her purse for her baggage claim stubs. I waited patiently for her to look up and when she did I said "I am SO glad to see you. I just ordered your concert but didn't know I was ordering you!" She smiled and said "oh I didn't know there was another showing." I told her it was the last one that weekend. Yet another classic album that stands the test of time even 50+ years later. I remember seeing Joni many mornings in a little cafe on the corner of Thompson and Prince in Soho (NYC) in 1986/87. She must have been living in the area at the time, just as I was. She always sat by herself at a little table by the window writing in one journal or another (she usually had more than one). I never interrupted her or asked for her autography even though I wanted to. Our eyes did meet a couple of times, but all I could do was nod in recognition of her pure genius. I remember it vividly because I had just come back from living in Europe and I really hated my job at the time. I was just starting to lean into being a writer and seeing her on those special mornings gave me the reassurance that art and commerce can indeed co-exist. It was partly because of her that I quit that job and eventually moved to southern California, where I often had the pleasure of cruising up and down Laurel and Coldwater Canyon in a zippy little convertible. Shine on Joni Mitchell, Shine on!

Joni's version of Woodstock is haunting, CSN&Y's version is a jam. Love them both✌️

She wrote it, and sung it for ‘Crosby, Stills, and Nash’ as they came back to the Hotel from the ‘Woodstock’ festival, and She couldn’t get there to play for the crowds, even though She was on the Schedule to play there. Because, She was scheduled to play Her music on ‘The Dick Cavett Show’ that next day, which would exponentially expose Her to the World Stage, and bring Her Music and Talents to Everyone Globally, who watched T.V., back then. ✌😎 😉💃🏼🎉💝💖
