John, love your work and all that you do, but it sounded like you were making the assumption that local tournaments would somehow acknowledge UPA-A approval and in asking around in my area that does not seem to be the case. The tournament directors and even clubs and leagues are simply following USAP approval list as usual, so it seems more like the ONLY tournaments you’d be sure to be able to use the 3S paddles in at moment would be PPA sanctioned events. It would be nice if joola or UPA-A would do some outreach on this to explain their standards as higher bar or more rigorous, so more tournament directors and clubs would allow them.

Interesting- where do you live? Here in CO, all Life Time and WPT tournaments will accept the JOOLAs. That’s the majority of non-USAP around here

@christianeprice @@johnkewpickleball I have commonly heard most KZitemrs make this assumption, but I believe it’s a misconception. My local tournaments are not recognizing UPA-A either. I am from Alabama and the major tournaments are hosted by 1-off facilities (so not organizations like Life Time) and the 2-3 near me are choosing not to recognize UPA-A. I only play tournaments with 500+ players though, maybe small tournaments will accept them.

Hi John, have you tried the Scorpeus with a Slyce Cap? PB Effect recently mentioned the idea of using a 1/2 oz cap on wide body paddles while using a 1 oz on elongated. I have the Colin 16 and haven’t put a Slyce on yet but am thinking a 1/2 oz cap may enhance performance. Also wondering if u have heard anything about Slyce caps agitating tennis or golfers elbow? I agree with the thinking that the Caps don’t make the paddle feel heavier due to the drop in the balance point but I could still imagine a scenario in which adding a full oz could irritate elbow issues. THANKS FOR THE GREAT WORK - Paul

I haven't tried a Slyce on the Scorp yet. I kind of like where it's balanced now, and it's about at the top of where I want the static weight. And although I love Slyce caps on elongated and hybrid paddles, I haven't found a standard or widebody that I like with this setup yet. But I do want to try the 1/2 oz - all my attempts have been with a 1 oz. And yes, I think people should be cautious with adding any weight if they have issues with tennis elbow. Also wrist tendonitis.

I don't really see the point in buying this paddle when 1) The Mod TA is way hotter and 2) The 3S isn't USAPA-approved.

As I said in the video, the 3S is a better choice over the Gen-3's and MOD if you 1) don't want crazy power and 2) want a more durable paddle.

@@douglasmurdoch7247 Actually, it’s technically USAPA: “USA Pickleball Association” most people shorten it to USAP because USA Pickleball drops the “Association” for the sake of their postings and advertisement. I personally think both are acceptable but USAPA is the truest abbreviation.

I’ve been running Gearbox Power Pro Elongated with the Shogun as a backup when I’m having off days. The power paddle has been super fun for me to learn to control. When a fail back to the shogun on the off days it feels super easy. I’m very interested in the J2Kti.

All of these Joolas are ruining the game. Mod ta 15 is the worst of them all(since most players don't use the original gen 3 and that was the worst before it was banned)

I took a shot to the forehead from a MOD. Had no time to react and I have fast hands. I'm good with weak people using it but when a young strong person uses it I get frustrated. They always lose. But they always hit people as they lose.

John, can you say whether the Mod TA-15 or the Perseus (or Hyperion) 3S has more feel? After borrowing the Mod TA-15 14mm the other day I found the feel to be pretty muted and I wonder if the 3S is the same or worse.
@johnkewpickleball

I'm not sure what you mean by feel, but the 3S will feel stiffer than the MOD. Some people feel more connected with their paddle if it's stiffer, but others prefer a softer paddle

John, how extensive core crush should be to be able to claim warranty replacement? Is palpation of non-uniformity or bounce is sufficient to get it?
@johnkewpickleball
20 сағат бұрын
I'm not positive, but I think when it gets to the point where the paddle makes crunching noises when you press your thumbs into it, then that's when the warranty kicks in. That's the way it should be, but I can't speak for JOOLA

Great work Jon! There still seems to be grip circumference inconsistencies with the 3S models. We measured 2 Scorpeus, one had a grip circumference over 4.75! Also inconsistency in face grit is noticable among the different shapes. Consumers still need to be aware of QC issues with this manufacturer. Thank you for all you do!
