I'm always building similar morphing controls using the ER-301's "Bump Scanner" units and this gives me a lot of great ideas! My typical usage is to crossfade both the input and output audio for multiple loopers so I can listen to one looper while punching in to the other to prep a new loop on a cue channel.

Why are the Input jacks labeled with +5 where A should be, and all rest are right-shifted where there is no D input label? Thanks,
@DivKid
2 жыл бұрын
Hello great question. +5V normalises to the first input A. So you can manipulate and a modulate a voltage. After that initial normalisation of the +5V signal channel A normalises to B, B to C and C to D. D doesn't normalise to anything else as there isn't a channel next to it to continue that normalisation path. The M signal stands for MORPH. So by default the morph is the level control. But you can override that by plugging a signal into the LEVEL input. You can override the inputs mentioned above with your own signals too. I hope that helps.

I did film a lot for the video, but trying to keep edits snappy for people to absorb lots of patches and ideas more quickly. I can appreciate really long form content and faster, snappier bits. @@DivKid Yep - tbh, I was more teasing than critiquing (given such an open-ended nature of a module like the Morph 4). I do believe you strike a really good balance between demonstrating the features and sounds of a new module, while also showing techniques that can be applied to other modules. Pacing-wise - that's always tough, but again, in my book, you get it right. Any faster, and it's hard to keep up. Any slower, and it can become a bit of a slog.

@joranalogue

The labels above the triangles denote the input normalisation. Each input receives the same input signal as its left hand neighbour, when the socket is not in use. Channel A has a +5 V normal.

Could one of you please explain to me, who this 4VCAS in Series example works? Where do the 4 different modulations on the DATA come from? From the Morph 4 or are they fed externally? Thank you!
@DivKid
Жыл бұрын
So to have something in series means one after the other. I go into the first channel A, then out of A to B, out of B to C, out of C to D and D is the final output. So that's 4 VCAs used in series from one external input on the first channel. All the modulation is external, that's what is on the Mordax DATA. An external oscillator for audio rate modulation for AM synthesis type sounds, an envelope, a random stepped signal and a square wave LFO. The example shows the effect of each as the text changes black to white of the bottom right. So you hear the AM overtones, then how they're enveloped in and out, then the random signal making the level dance around, then the square LFO acting like a gate to mute things on and off. I hope that's helpful.

@@DivKid you got one more subscriber, your videos are well made and super helpful! reg the module, one reason that made me think, MORPH 4 has hidden "superpowers" is, that on modwiggler etc sometimes modules are told to be able to do this and that and 100 more things. what is the modulation source module at around 7:00 ? :)
@catscanmeow

So this seems to have a very specific type of min and max logic, ive seen other min max modules where the max section lets through negative voltage and the min lets through positive voltage, theres no halfwave rectification, it just lets through the lowest or the highest point regardless of a zero crossing, I wonder what the reasoning behind this specific choice was.
@joranalogue

They're not restricted to just positive or just negative voltage. This is the case here simply because there's always an unused channel in this particular patch.

the MIN/MAX example? It's four LFOs (you can see those making the LEDs dancing around) then taking the MIN output to modulate the left side of a stereo filter and the MAX to the right side of a stereo filter. The individual outputs also modulate the wavetable oscillator that is going into a stereo filter.

it's not an oscillator, so in a word - no. It's not like a filter that you can make oscillate and then use that. As with anything though patching feedback around modules will likely result in some audio tones coming out but it will be far from standard oscillator behaviour.
