@penttikoivuniemi2146
6 жыл бұрын
That's really the most likely case... First, the good guy, remembering they have a gun, will prioritize it over any and all other action, not dependent of context, probably getting shot in the process. Next, they will struggle to get it out of the holster in a panic, probably getting shot in the process. Then they will wildly spray bullets everywhere and be as much of a danger to all the other civilians as the shooter, probably getting shot in the process. Finally, they will be holding a smoking gun when the police appear, probably getting shot in the process. I'm not against private ownership of guns or any other small arms (I actually own a ton of weapons myself for martial arts reasons), but I'm a massive advocate of background checks, mandatory training, and the like. I actually think something like this crisis training might be a good thing to make mandatory for all who want to own small handguns for self-defense, just to show them the naivety of the idea that having a gun is enough to stop an attacker.

Gun owners don't want to fight. .. They definitely don't want to have to shoot someone because it's not fun or cool or anything like that, they then have to go to trail and be in jail while they wait unless they got bail money they lose the gun used because it becomes evidence. .. They get vilified for defending them self and its alot of trouble that they don't need... ***** This conversation is completely arbitrary lol. I concede, if he was actually granted a concealed carry permit, he probably did take the tests. However, the training he recieved for active shooter situations aren't actually in the training guidelines in Florida. But let's come to an understand here. Would you grant that it is too easy to get a concealed carry permit? That it should require more training to legally be allowed to carry a firearm in public? Just so you have an idea of how little training concealed carry licensees recieve in Flordia, I'll list the training criteria. The state of Florida only mandates 2.5 total hours of training split between gun safety courses, range time and all classroom testing. Only 2 and a half hours to get a concealed carry license that is valid in 34 states, and it only costs $65 dollars. There are people who may decide that they want to stop a shop lifter by shooting them in the head. There are people who will drink a bit to much and get into a common fist fight, the vast majority of which normally end in very minor cuts and scrapes, and because he or she has a gun he may say that "he feared for his life" and shoot a man in a chest who did not pose an actual threat to his life. There are people who will leave their gun on the table after greasing the barrel, walk away for just a moment to get a glass of water, and not notice their child playing with their accidentally loaded gun until it is too late. I am not anti-gun. I actually like guns myself, I think going to the shooting range is fun and like president Obama, I fully support the 4 billion dollar program he proposed to encourage safe gun ownership. I do however think that it should be harder to get a gun in this country. This is not to say that I don't think that everyone who wants a gun should have to oppritunity to have them. I just want those people who do want a gun to be trained in exactly how to handle a gun, exactly how to store it so that children will never touch it, I want them to know exactly when it is appropriate to use a gun and more importantly, when it is not. There are so many shootings in this country because people get into a common fist fight and end up shooting their adversary because they do not realize that there is no immediate life threatening danger. I want people to know that even the biggest, most accredited gun training organizations in the country say that in an active shooter event hiding and escaping are the FIRST option, and shooting the attacker is the last. The reason is obvious, police will probably mistake you as the shooter, and when confronted by the shooter if you begin firing without proper training you could very well catch civilians in the cross fire. Can we at least agree that 2.5 hours of training should not be enough to conceal a weapon in 34 states? I think you are a reasonable enough person to agree with me there.

People should only have guns if they are able to complete a hostage situation like they simulated in the right way. If they fail it, go back to training until you pass the test. Yes, 90% would fail and many wouldn't bother to get a gun anymore. But I prefer a tool that can kill a person with bending your finger only to be in the hands of a person that has proven that he/she knows how to handle this equipment the right way and is clear headed enough, too. We only let people drive tons of steel on the street called cars after they have proven to be able to drive and follow the rules, so why not the same with much more dangerous hardware?

No just no. I understand your hypothetical plan has the best of intentions and I respect that, but saving hostages or stopping crimes in progress is not why people have a concealed carry weapon on them in the first place. Hostage rescuing is a job that's best left to the professionals, and 99.9% of the people who carry a gun know that. Anyone who's permitted to have a concealed carry firearm isn't going to use it to seek out and stop criminals, nor should they be expected to. They carry it to protect their own life or the ones they love and they only draw it if they believe they absolutely have to. Some people do make mistakes and it can be a deeply, unfortunate tragedy if they do. That is, however, why I believe more training should be required and that thorough background checks are always needed. That being said, that doesn't mean you should expect every "good person" with a gun to try and be a "hero" because that's not why people choose to carry. Most realistic situations where you might find yourself at gun point were easily avoidable if you were being cautious in the first place. It's always going to be your job (and your job alone) to avoid these situations if you possibly could have. However, you shouldn't just expect someone you don't even know to put themselves in a life threatening position just because you're already in one. Granted, they most likely will help you out if they're present, but understand that they have families who care about them too. So why should this man or woman be obligated to help you out if they might get killed too? If you're asking them to save you just because you've found yourself as a hostage, then that's an extremely dangerous position you're asking them to put themselves in. It's also another ridiculously far fetched situation that the news likes to portray. Even the cops themselves would just call for backup rather than trying to engage it on their own.
@DatGrunt

Lmao you seriously think people NEED to go through classes and courses to drive a car? They can buy one off a private seller and not show any kind of documentation and go drive a car. By your logic, 99.99% of all law enforcement wouldn't be allowed to carry guns either. Hell 99.99% of the military as well. Not being able to not complete a hostage situation doesn't mean you're not capable of having a firearm. The two don't even connect. It's like saying only people that can drive through an insane, almost unbeatable obstacle course should be allowed to drive. Even after having all those regulations with vehicles, more people die from them than they do guns. And guns are a right. Driving a car isn't.

Or maybe because all that bullshit people think they have to go through doesn't make them any safer or make them safer drivers? There's people who shoot more often and for longer than they drive and nothing ever happens. It's only when people are scared of guns and don't treat them with respect, or when parents listen to the bullshit media and alienate their kids from guns that accidents start to happen. Maybe instead of adding more bullshit regulations or calling for bans (like Obama and Hillary want with semi automatic weapons. And they HAVE called for them) we should fund classes that teach gun safety? Guns are never going to go away. Not even "assault weapons". It's time retards understood this.

The problem is, that some percentage of the people with carrying permits will always end up committing a crime themselves, having a firearm related accident, enticing the perpetrator to shoot by trying to stop the crime or enabling someone without a permit to gaining access to the legal firearm. "Good guys with guns" would actually prevent gun violence, if there was a reasonably well established way to determine the part of the population who: 1) Would never use the gun to commit a crime 2) Would never enable someone without a permit to gain access to their gun 3) Would commit to a vigorous training routine 4) Would agree to endanger themselves for the safety of others Oh wait... that actually sounds a lot like this thing called the law enforcement! Agreed, there will always be corruption, but if vigilante law enforcement actually worked, the romanticization of the wild west should've looked liked the safest era of human history. It's weird that everyone can see the obvious flaws of the system via fiction, but fail to apply the same logic into reality.
@JFrazer4303

US DoJ numbers show that people with concealed carry permits are among the best most law-abiding of any segment of the population. Better than politicians, judges, or police officers, and that civilians who use guns in defense are less than 20% as likely as police to use them wrongly or cause undue harm. In short, you're full of it. Law enforcement has no legal Constitutional requirement to protect citizens even if they can and they just sit and watch. It's been established by courts at every level and all across the country. If you or I might take the chances and go in and try to help, that just shows that we're better than cops with qualified immunity and no duty to protect. Look up Jeanne Assam, Joel Myrick, Stephen Willeford. Look up the recent story hardly carried by any news, about a citizen with a pistol shooting back at and stopping a nut firing a rifle at a birthday party. Charleston WVa “Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Chief of Detectives Tony Hazelett told news outlets Thursday. BTW, the " Wild West" had fewer law enforcement per capita, more guns per capita, less crime per capita than today. I already said you're full of it.

What Jordan Klepper is saying is so true. I have a concealed carry license from Texas.I dont know a thing about guns, how to loads them, types of guns etc etc. I never had a gun, and never will. Basically it was a "party" (kind of) that I was invited to, only it was in a gun range, and we did not drink. They taught us how to load and shoot, they divided us into groups, and I was in the novice group. But that was probably 15 minutes. I dont remember how to load or shoot. They are supposed to lecture for a certain number of hours, they tried to make it as amusing as they could, and in the end they gave us the answers to the questions on the "test" asked by the State. So I can now buy (I wont, but can) a gun, conceal and carry it. I guess, down here, my 2A right trumps your right to live. I mean, Texas would probably argue that had the framers of the constitution thought the right to life is important, they would have put it in the first amendment, rather than in the preamble; and SCOTUS would agree.

The fact that we don't collect data is the problem, and that's not being prevented by the gun control side. In truth, everything is a guess until Data is collected. The amount of ready victims who would prefer to be unarmed in a diner or movie theater when a nut comes in with a gun is astounding. Of course things can go wrong - police can shoot you, etc - but even the CDC estimates 500,000 to 2mil crimes thwarting by legal gun owners per year. We live in the USA and until society is such that there is no chance a nut (who doesn't care about gun laws) can storm in to a public place and begin shooting, nobody may disarm me. I'm not hiding under a table with my daughter, listening to others being executed and hoping we aren't next. Again - plenty of legit points in the comments but forgetting the big picture. We can't guarantee a nut can't come into you home, car, place of biz, etc - a legal gun owner is the best line of immediate defense in many cases - it sends perps running away most of the time (hopefully bleeding to death)

However, there's a line between buying a weapon for actual protection versus buying a weapon for perceived protection. Too many people fall into the latter and feel like they're in such danger from a "bad guy" that they cannot part with their gun, even though they've never been near any kind of life-threatening danger in any way, shape, or form and completely ignore the need to protect themselves from other things that might kill them (i.e. house fire or carbon monoxide poisoning).

Just remember that usually, the one that draws the gun first is not the victim; unless you consider every strangers approaching as a threat, you will only react to those "people". Drawing a gun when being aimed at is like saying "shoot me, and make sure I stay dead". Again, in your brother case, he will get shot either way so having a gun may, just may, save his life. Having your brother get as much training as he can, so he has a chance of protecting himself. I wish him luck.

I think this video is brilliant..everyone with a gun thinks their lives are in constant danger and hope one day they will be the hero by killing a bad guy...but what if the good guy with a gun turns into the bad guy with a gun...I have no problem with guns I just don't understand how anyone ever is going to be able to tell who's a good guy or a bad guy..anyone could become a murderer if their life turns in a bad direction

+Wub what if we start giving guns out to people like candy for Halloween we would be so safe then...I think you missed my point completely I'm just saying there's no guarantee that people won't us guns for murdering innocent people

+Wub But saying everyone should have a gun on them all of the time isn't the answer either...not everyone deserves to own weapons

If you bring more guns to a fight then there will be more bloodshed. Not everybody is trained, not everybody is like Wesley from Wanted.

Pretty sure you need to live in the state to get a CHL. I’m from Texas though and that is our state law.

You assume only conservatives own guns and you are wrong , second he didn't debunk anything he cherry picked the study which in its entirety shows that 2.5 million crimes are stopped each year by good guys with guns .. the 3% was only focused on active shooting situations which are extremely rare , most crimes are stopped by good guys without firing a shot

Okay but political point aside, is anyone else getting some real Stephen Colbert vibes from this? Like the whole "well intentioned, high-status idiot" shtick.

It should be as hard to own a gun as it is to become a police officer, which should become harder as well. A society where only criminals have guns is so more safe than handing out guns to anyone who has a free weekend. I support people having firearms for self defense, but I also support the fact that "You can never have enough training"

The right to keep and bear arms is beneficial to everyone. Fearing everyday citizens with firearms is foolish.

Yeah let’s give everyone guns and increase crime rates

@@interview1296 when the UK banned guns, crime rates, particularly violent crime, skyrocketed because people couldn’t defend themselves. The only areas that have high crime rates with a lot of guns are the ghettos, and that’s a cultural problem not a gun one. Also, why do you think MSM and politicians so desperately want to collect our guns and take away our constitutional rights? Remember, these are the same people who commit genocide in foreign countries for the sake of resources.

@@ethanbills1008 Giving everyone gun also makes things worse, people that have anger issues can just end up shooting someone from small argument which is already happening in the states with guns permitted. Kids too that tries to act gangster in school and fortunately gun is legal now and their parents or an adult in their house have gun, what’s to stop that kid from not taking the gun to school?

@@interview1296 my problem is that the government isn’t representative. So I would rather take the risk of people having more or less open access to guns than have some putative totalitarian government dictate who can and can’t have guns. Ideally we would have localized communities that would be able to make their own gun legislation based on the beliefs of the members of that community, but it’ll be a while until something like that ever happens, if it does. But I agree guns are a problem and it’s unfortunate the way people use them. I wouldn’t be against the idea of the state (opposed to the federal government) mandating safety training. But it’s impossible to ensure that accidents or unfortunate events like the ones you described can be prevented without complete government overreach.
