It's her right, and her job, to challenge and question people who appear on her show, so she isn't doing anything you don't expect to see in any political discussion. To take away, the difference between men and woman in our society is laid down by competence, not power relations. Male dominance in the higher echelons, which represents a small portion of society, can not be used generalize the power relations between sexes as whole. Meritocracy will ultimately progress to a natural state between man and woman, implying that we are different, this is a truth difficult to grasp for feminists. Not to say that one is superior to another, we should respect and celebrate our differences.

Women rápe/molest men and boys all the time, society just doesn't take it seriously and shames men who come forward. Society takes assault of women very seriously. But the disparity in sexual violence is mainly due to biology, not a systemic problem. Men are on average stronger and faster and bigger. So they are more able to force a situation. most men are in prison because they commit more crimes. they fail out of school because of their toxic and violent behavior. they die in wars because of the wars created by men. most men die by suicide because of the unrealistic expectations the patriarchy projects on them. the "asymmetry" he's trying to debunk being present in most contexts does not invalidate the immediate results the patriarchy brings to "both" genders. the way he also states there's no power but only competence shows what he's trying to prove is not even dependent on clear assumptions; power and competence go hand in hand in almost every context. the plumber example is one of the most blatant forms of straw man argumentation; he's taking a niche market at face value with no added detail to its precursors, then he inductively stereotypes it. peterson tried to recreate new targets to deliberately go off-topic and is clearly biased against feminism, probably because he's a man. i'm afraid he's developed a kind of stockholm syndrome to patriarchy and he's presenting a typical case of psychological inertia. notice the way he acts on the edge and ready for a threat, it's not healthy.

Selim u still can’t prove how society is male dominated. Also, court bias to men is 6x higher than racial bias. Men serve 63% longer sentences than woman for the same crime, 40-70% of domestic abuse is to men, yet men only have 1% of safe houses and organizations for them, etc. Men commit suicide more than women because emotions are suppressed which is because men AND women tell boys to man up and be dominant.

The key distinction, which unfortunately this interviewer doesn’t make (at least in this clip), is that the male suffering Peterson describes (higher incarceration rates, higher rates of suicide etc) are also arguably results of the patriarchy. The implicit cultural pressure on men and boys to live up to masculine ideals has many detrimental affects, including poor mental health. While I don’t agree with Peterson on most things, I’d be interested to hear his take on this. On another note, he claims the ranking of society is established solely on competence, but we know that unconscious and conscious biases (about race, religion and yes, gender) influence access to job opportunities, education etc. I’m not sure how he’s able to ignore that.

The patriarchy does not just mean that men have it easier, and is always the dominant. At least not as individuals. However it is a system where men as a class, or goupr, have more benefits, as society is build around not just being a man, but being a masculine man. In the patriarchy, men are not allowed to cry, they arent allowed to talk about feelings, they have to be tough, have the right type of job and hobbies. It is a system where femininity is frowned upon, not just in women, by men, but in everybody, by everybody. The patriarchy is the reason men feel bad, because we are not allowed to express feelings, clothing, art, crafts, etc, typically seen as feminine. Women are allowed to, and how to be feminine. If they wanna be masculine, and be at level with masculine men, being masculine, they have to out do the men in masculinity, in aorder to be accepted. This is why there is typically more men in powerfull positions. Women that are not more masculine, or more powerful than the men in the same type of masculine roles, are excluded. Men automatically has the masculine feature, of "being an actual man", meaning it is a lot easier for men to get these leadership roles And yes, men die more in war, has more dangerous jobs, and in general is more in physically dangerous environments, compared to women. And you know why? because the masculine male is, according to the patriarchy, the highest form of man you can be. You die in war because it is seen as a masculine trait, to defend. And no, i dont think anyone should go to war. War is about power. And who leads those wars? men do. Men wanting more power, showing their big arsenal of weapons, soldiers, and machines. Showing their masculine traits Women have more mentally hard jobs. Taking care of the sick, and dying. Raising the next generation as mothers, kindergarden workers, nurses, and other jobs, in which they have to take care of people. These jobs are often hilariously underpaid, and under appreciated When men are r*ped, they are not taken seriously. In media, we laugh at them. When a man r*pes another man i prison, we laugh it off, and justify the r*pe. When a man is r*ped by a stereotypical ugly woman, we laugh at the man, and at the women, but never help the man. If he is r*ped by a good looking woman, he is seen as lucky an congratulated. R*pe should never be justified. This is also at the fault of the patriarchy. It is a feminine trait to be submissive, and being r*ped is the most submitting thing that can happen to you. When Terry Cruis spoke out, people believed him, but they laughed at him. He is big, and masculine looking, and people think he should have used his masculine powers, to make it stop. But he didnt, so now people blame the victim When the women of metoo spoke out, they simply werent believed. Or was told to enjoy it, or that they were at the fault themselves. Women arent believed, men arent supported. Most of the gendered problems, are because we live in a world, where the ideal person, is a masculine male. And none of us can live up to that.

Well, obviously men suffer, but they are everywhere, as he says they are just always there, they are always the most, even if it´s bad, where are women? Are we just nothing? We just assist men or follow men around, with luck we depend on men. We couldn´t vote, or open a bank account, or do many things just a few years ago, or even nowadays depending on the country. We were lucky if we had a man, so we could do something and survive. Women were given, are given from the father to the husband. This society is male-dominated, because men predominate, it can not have a patriarchal structure to some degree, it is just not a little bit, or just on Mondays. He talks about competence, but the thing is, we, women, don´t get the chance to be competent, we just don´t, or at least not as easy as men, and that´s the thing with feminism. In my opinion, men misunderstand the movement because they think patriarchy is about men always enjoying life and always winning, but it´s men being the only ones to participate. Of course, you can lose, of course you get hurt, that´s life, that goes beyond social structures and systems. This man looks like a very intelligent man, and he brings many interesting facts, for sure, that most of the time aren´t brought up. I really don´t know about his work, or what he does or who he is but in general, talking just about women vs. men is a waste of time, because poverty, race, everything there is, in the end, it is about power. This majority of men in jails or homeless aren´t white or rich or come from nice families. And trust me, these men probably have kids that they are probably not raising, some woman is. Injustice is everywhere, but trying to avoid the reality of women having shittier opportunities than men is really dumb. I don´t feel like comparing misfortunes is the way to freedom and peace, but don´t pretend that because men are predominant in many terrible situations means that women are just making up their suffering, look around or look up history, there is an obvious injustice, with many for many situations. If you are a man and you are hurting, maybe because of something that is not a popular thing to know and that´s dependent of being a man, share it, we are working together for a better future for everyone, it´s not about putting down the others. Feminism is for everyone, and if you hear someone calling themself a feminist and saying that men are trash or the worst or something similar, that´s just wrong! That´s just as dumb as men saying Patriarchy is a lie!!! PLEASE DON´T TRY TO RIDICULE MY LOVELY SPEECH BECAUSE OF WRITING OR EXPRESSION MISTAKES, ENGLISH IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE. @@Yupster2501 It is obviously not a good Patriarchy and not a good system, it is bs for everyone. ´Patriarchy is a social system in which men hold primary power and predominate in roles of political leadership, moral authority, social privilege and control of the property.´ That´s Wikipedia. Yes, men are killing themselves and each other, literally and figuratively speaking, but we can not change that if we keep comparing suffering. Ignoring the obvious injustice and different treat that women live just for being women is not going to help either. Rotten Patriarchy is still Patriarchy and that means women are in lack of power and ability to be competent or accomplish things in life. Empathy is the way my man, men, even more when they re white, and rich and have a powerful passport or whatever have some much power, to do so much good... this man is just trying to defend himself from anyone saying that he has certain advantages for the fact of being male and white. And that´s energy wasted. If you want facts, look for them, but try looking at the reality of women, not just men. You might get surprised with the Facts that you can find! If someone says they're suffering and even more if you are somewhat involved because at the end we all are involved, just listen, instead of trying to shield yourself from any comment. If you are hurting please share it, that´s what feminism and all this new wave of wellbeing and building a better future are about!!! xxx

But you also cannot deny that this is indeed a male-dominated world. Just because there are more men who're committing suicide or doing worse in school than women, doesn't mean the world is not male-dominated! The majority of the rules that exist in this world (whether political or societal) are still set by men, this is a reality that is not dismissable. I personally find Peterson's talk on other areas (such as psychology) to be insightful and inspiring, but this one I cannot agree with.

Truth seeker Yes, there are more homeless men than homeless women, but this still doesn’t prove that women are more equal than men. Because socioeconomic inequality is different than gender inequality. I will agree with you on this one: poor men indeed face more inequalities than poor women, rich women and rich men combined, but this is a socioeconomic problem not a gender problem because the rich men (who share the same gender as the poor men) are still more equal than most (if not all) women! As you go higher on the social economic ladder, the power discrepancy between the two gender increases. In short, there are a lot less females than males on the top of the social economic ladder, and the inequality faced by the homeless men doesn’t and shouldn’t make these females’s problems dismissible. In fact, the rich men should be the common enemy of both the homeless men and the powerful women, because the rich men is the only group who is above us all.

He was able to swat away the poorly-formed arguments of a bush-league exponent. Otherwise, he "destroyed" nothing. He correctly noted that the existence of an assymetry (taking her example of men committing rape far more often than women) does not per se prove there as a male-dominated patriarchy. He then tried to throw her a bone to see if she could make a better argument: the plumber who comes to your house is more likely to be male. This, too, in and of itself doesn't prove there's a patriarchy, nor is it an example in and of itself of patriarchy. She completely missed her chance. The question is, How is it that the vast majority of plumbers are male? Because, when it comes down to it, historically, that trade (along with many others) were the province of men. And it is those men who decide who will become plumbers, and those decisions, until relatively recently, went all but exclusively to men. THAT is patriarchy. THAT is an example of how men dominate women. They come to have positions of power -- the ability to make a decision that will effect the life of another -- and as that power expands, they use that power to ensure it is bestowed predominantly, if not exclusively on men for no other reason than that they're men. THAT is male privilege.

So the reason men dominate certain industries is "competence" What rubbish. If things worked on merit there would be more women running large companies and banks, and there would be more women in politics.
@Yupster2501
5 жыл бұрын
As usual people twist his words, the reason men dominate certain industries is interest, men are generally more interested in things and woman are generally interested in people, that's why women dominate in teaching, medical, HR and other people focused fields, and why men dominate in STEM fields, it's called personal choice, A foreign concept to the far left I know who can't think outside their little collective think tank. Also your biases are showing, what makes women have more merit then men? Most women aren't prepared to put in the hours and extra work required to run a large corporation, That's not saying their lazy or not capable, again most women choose to exercise their free choice to have a more balanced work/life balance, whereas men on average are prepared to work the extra hours and earn the extra merit required to become a CEO, again personal choice in effect, not some conspiracy to keep women down. Also so what if there's more men in politics ? Gender doesn't define your beliefs, Just because a politician is male doesn't mean he wont care about woman's issues. How about this for a radical idea ? don't judge a person by their gender or race, judge them by their beliefs and actions, I believe Martin Luther King made a famous quote to that effect.

How about you go and start a large company and encourage other women to do the same instead of complaining. And how many women are interested in politics compared to men ? In Australia we have affirmative action for women in the workplace for male dominated industries (Which is outdated since there are more women in University and in the workforce than men) like the U S does for African Americans. Companies actually pay women more in laboring jobs so that they stay, they are also paid more than men for admin and positions thst involve caring for others than men do which is actually legal, while not so the other way around and women still choose different types of jobs because they prefer them and still complain here because of the lies that third wave Feminism tells them.
