In this clip from his second biblical lecture (‘Genesis II: Chaos and Order’) Dr. Peterson explains the philosophy held by Mephistopheles, the satanic character in Goethe’s play, ‘Faust’. Mesphistopheles contends that the world is filled with little more than suffering and ruin thus it would be better off not existing. Peterson explains how the same line of thinking was acted out by the Columbine shooters as one example. The play has a deep philosophical insight and was referenced numerous times by Carl Jung.
