I love Buck. He's a phenomenal artist and such a genuinely warm and kind person. I was very surprised to see him using Bill Alexander's technique. Buck is a traditional oil painter so for those who are struggling with his teaching method/delivery, it could be that he's still trying to get to grips with this method of painting. I would advise people to have a look at some of Buck's paintings and his other videos on KZitem. Not wishing to be too disrespectful to all the people who love the Alexander/Bob Ross method, but Buck does a great deal of what might be termed high end fine art and whilst this method/approach is great for beginners and getting people into art and being creative (that's brilliant) it is not really fine art technique and so won't give you the same results. That being said, please stick with Buck, he genuinely wants the best for his students and is very enthusiastic about art and getting people painting.

Gonna be honest, I felt like Jim below me and didn't like Buck. But he's grown on me and now I enjoy his episodes very much.

Nice! I like this piece he did! the beauty of art is not everyone uses the same technique and everyone's art is different which makes them unique :)

"1 hwhite, 10 Prussian blue.." I was like, "uhh...I don't know about that..you would have a black that is pretending to be a blue." 🙂🙃🙂 I like the old art shows that basically didn't edit much of anything and you get little moments like that.

Also, as a person who lives in Utah and about 30 minutes north of the Jordan River, Buck is somewhat correct about the Wasatch Mountains. By the means of he is painting the Jordan River and you can see the Wasatch way off in the distance. If that's what he meant and not that the Jordan sits at the base of them.

I never understood why Buck has his own unique pallet knife that’s smaller and more like an actual garden spade / cement layer, any explanation for the benefits of that tool compared to the regular pallet knife? I thought the purpose of the pallet knife was to be flexible to allow for easier contact with the canvas

Buck learned from a great artist named Claude Buck. That is the style of painting he learned and became comfortable with. There are several advantages to using a knife like that.

He isnt painting by number, he is painting from a reference painting he originally did before the show started, that what you see him looking at. All artists do this Bill Alexander, Lowell Speers even Bob Ross does. This is common practice because they only get such limited time to paint, that it is necessary to do a reference painting so they dont have to improvise during the show.

He's a good painter. You must realize he is forced to make this painting in 27 minutes and at the same time explain what he is doing.
