Craig is 50 years old. He has incredible ammounts of experiance and time to develop his skills. I find no reason to get depressed by his work. This video was pure motivation for me. :D

To clarify, some of you didn't quite get this, this is a parody/joke, guys :D I'm not actually depressed or whatever - I think this is doable to learn, and I do know about colour theory etc :P I am playing a bit dumb to parody the general reactions of people on facebook. But seriously he's dope though.

It occurs to me that Craig Mullins is in his 50s, and he got into digital painting at an early age, and he's been working flat out as a concept artist for most of his life. What's more, he works digitally, so he never has to stretch canvases or wash brushes or any of that stuff. He may have done more painting than any other human being ever.

Eh eh eh... Same exact feeling... One moment I want to cut my wrists, the other I remember I need my right hand fit so I can practice more... Besides all the hard work he put on his craft the guy has perfect genes for painting, and that's just that... This video was funny... I giggled... and cryed... And giggled some more :)

That comment is ...well I'm going to have to steal it, since it is so good ! And I paint traditionally, and derive so much inspiration from Craig's work. My work is absolute, complete total shit, and i have been painting for decades. I am seeing others here make the comment that he doesn't use layers. To me what makes his work so magnificent, is that layered look. For him to create this layered look and have it all work so well, makes me even more in awe of his work. On a totally different topic all together, am I the only one that found themselves turning down the volume while watching the video ? With all of the " Oooh ...fuuuckkk. uuuh ...uuoooh ... " going on in the narration, I began to suspect my neighbors upstairs might be thinking I was watching porn . ( " It sounds like the guy downstairs is watching porn. But why do I just hear a guy, and no gi....ohhhh nevermind " )

respect to Mr. Mullins...I am an art enthusiast, maybe some some day I'll be a little bit better than I am now, maybe not. I lack on every aspect in art, but I'm not worried. I do my little things, 2d sketches, mostly 3d modeling and bits if digital sculpting..I have a shitload of projects in my head that want to get started...oh well.. Btw, I have the same feelings whenever I watch the CGTalk/ZBrushcentral forums... (I should count the F words in this video, just for fun...)

Nah. I feel like there has to be someone to look up to. Without any competition we wouldn't have to progress anymore. For those who want to get even more depressed - check out Cynthia Sheppard's or yang qi's work. If you are searching for some old master painting I suggest you to take a look at Jan Matejko's pieces. They are fucking mind blowing.

What a bunch of BS! If you really want it, you will make it. If I look back when I was your age and would have spent like only 2 to 4 hours a day learning, I would be as good as him by now (I'm 31). The thing is, I never really wanted it that badly. So make up your mind! What he's doing is no magic (although it's really impressive), you can do it.

Well... maybe :) Basically Sonicblast said it. You need to know, what to practice and you need to have specific excercies for every topic (values, materials, perspective, etc..) It's sometimes really a chore, that's the price for getting good. The thing is, so many people just doodle around (which is alright and fun from time to time) but they don't have learning-goals, they don't know, what to Focus on, to get better.
