On September 18, 2022, Mr. Jorge Ragghianti went above and beyond in his actions as a security guard
when a fire broke out in an SUV. The SUV was parked in the lot of Mr. Ragghianti's employer and two
children, ages 6 & 4, were left inside by their parent. While the parent was inside the dispensary, a fire started
inside the SUV. Mr. Ragghianti and another bystander noticed smoke coming from inside the vehicle. Without
hesitation, Jorge ran to the vehicle and attempted to open the doors to get the children out. All of the doors
were locked, forcing Mr. Ragghianti to run to his personal vehicle to grab a tire iron. Jorge returned to the
burning vehicle, breaking out the window on the passenger side and rescuing the 4 year old. The 4 year old
informed Jorge that his 6 year old brother was still inside the vehicle. Jorge returned to the burning SUV and
rescued the 6 year old. Mr. Ragghianti sustained injuries and burns during the event. Both children suffered
burns and were transported to local burn center. Mr. Ragghianti was honored by the Lakewood Fire
Department and City of Lakewood for his heroism by receiving the first ever City of Lakewood Division of
Public Safety Act of Valor award. The Lakewood Fire Department presented this award at its annual
Firefighter Recognition Ceremony held each year to kick off Fire Prevention Week
