Recently visited Fur Peace Ranch and met Jorma and his lovely wife. What genuine nice people. Have always loved Jorma's playing.

I learned this song by leaning on the stage and watching Jorma play this piece until I could play the whole thing, but that was close to 50 years ago. He plays it rather different now , adding a few layers of sophistication to his wonderful style.

Jorma and Jack at the Filmore East as Hot Tuna-what a trip! Such a pleasure to see him playing still. But when music embroiders and weaves the threads of our lives, we would rather give up breathing to keep the music. Thank you for so many moments of pleasure and joy

Ralph McTell did a good version of "Hesitation Blues" on his "8 Frames a Second" LP, released in '68. Worth hearing if you can find it. I saw him perform it in '76 or '77 at a club in Toronto. Every player, quite rightly, develops their own interpretive arrangement usually based on a version, that they really admired or suited their own style. Traditional tunes are merely a starting off point and shouldn't be considered as "dead" music history.

Jorma and Garcia knew each other since 1962 or 1963 but it’s a shame there is hardly any video of them playing acoustic guitars together. We know they did but not much of that was documented. Oh well.

"The son of a State Department official, Jorma Kaukonen, Jr. was born and raised in the Washington D.C. area, with occasional extended trips outside the United States. He was a devotee of rock-and-roll in the Buddy Holly era but soon developed a love for the blues and bluegrass that were profuse in the clubs and concerts in the nation’s capitol. He wanted to take up guitar and make that kind of music himself. Soon he met Jack Casady, the younger brother of a friend and a guitar player in his own right. Though they could not have known it, they were beginning a musical partnership that has continues for over 50 years. Jorma graduated from high school and headed off for Antioch College in Ohio."
