I was introduced to Jose Gonzalez from his song at the end of Secret Life of Walter Mitty. I am so glad I learned who he was. His music brings such a calm to my spirit.

One of my favorite things about him that I'm only gleaning from these live performances is how he seems to radiate humility. A trait I truly do hope to register into my own spirit on a daily basis. Music like this helps to cultivate it...

Heading out to see him in a few minutes at the Belly-up in Solana Beach, California....the day before my birthday, and what a great birthday present to myself. GOD, I love the way this guy sings....so honest, so unpretentious...like he's having a quiet, friendly conversation with you. So glad I got turned on to his music.

I feel he has also inserted a bit of Latin American Nuevo canto or what might be called protest music of the 60's-70's from Latin America. Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes and also a bit of Southern Cone. Victor Jara. There is a guy named Manuel Garcia from Chile. His look reminds me of him.

So many musicians of this genre are so repetitive. I feel like Jose is one of the few artists who embodies a truly unique edge. Wish more indie/folk musicians were like him. Does anybody have recommendations for similar artists?

This is good, very good in fact, but Kings of convenience come much closer to reaching the bar set by Simon and Garfunkel. However both still fall short of the sheer genius of Simon and Garfunkel
