I used to watch this with my grandma over and over and over... she's been gone 7 years now, and I still remember sitting around singing these words at the top of my lungs. I guess I was a little old to be doing that at ten, but it's still good memories. this whole movie makes me a little sad now...but I can't stop watching it.

*sigh* This musical isn't meant for children exactly, although out of all of Mr. Webber's plays, it is by far the most appropriate play for children, and there is nothing in the slightest wrong with that. It doesn't hurt this masterpiece in the slightest. I had first seen this when I was a young child. Now in my mid-teenage years I still find it to be extremely entertaining, and even riveting. It's an amazing musical, although it is more appropriate for children than something like Les Miserable

It's not geared towards children specifically, but maybe some people think that because this movie makes it look like they are putting the show on for the children in the audience. My best friend and I actually loved this movie when we were 8. I remember whenever I'd watch it at her house though, her mom would fast forward through the Potiphar scene, haha

Perhaps, @ravensfan300, but the "pop cantata" that was presented in a private school as an Easter Concert was certainly not set with the costuming and sexual innuendo that the eventual Broadway version contains.

It was originally written as a children's cantata in 1968, and went through several expansions and revisions until its popularity was overshadowed by Jesus Christ Superstar in 1971. Lloyd Webber revived it in 82 for the first time on Broadway... so yes, there is a children's play element.

@megmcgarry May I remind you, Webber made the musical for a sunday school (where little boys and girls go). The musical didn't just go to broadway. Therefore it is a broadway musical originally made for kids.

@XxElenaMichellexX I agree with you completely. You didn't understand my post. What my post states is: just because it's a musical does not mean it's for children. Music does not put it into a family-friendly category. Of COURSE there are children's musicals.

Let me clarify on what I said. There is a HUGE difference between something being meant for children and being OK for children. Something that is meant for children is completely designed so that children can be entertained and no other age group is able to appreciate it as much as children. Contrasty, something that is OK for children is meant for all ages but children are allowed to see. It's the difference between Dora and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

I'm confused about the wives. In the introduction the narrator sings in the text "...his son and his wives..." (referring to Jacob), yet the way the wives and Jacob's sons hold hands, dance together etc. they look like Jacob's daughter-in-laws. Does anyone know whose wives they are?
@jeanneg1628
10 жыл бұрын
okay so jacob had 12 sons, and 2 wives, Rachel and Leah. Rachel was the mother of 2 sons, and each wife brought a servant as a concubine for Jacob. So in total 4 women who were the mothers. The ladies also include the wives of the sons i think thats why theyre holding hands with the sons and stuff
