Every time I look this demo , It makes me crying of the beautiness that Joseph brings to us with his watercolor paintings. Using the fantastic charestiristics of the basic water at that way brings me down to earth. People don't realize , but for me this is at the leavel of Vincent. This is Art at the highest level !!

Again this is 4 months ago that I wrote this comments . Again people apprentist , look !! He makes the connections between every layer horizontally ( and vertically) so subtil that you dont see it at the first sight but working this way he makes a masterpiece. Working with watercolors is knowing when you have to add the following strike when the previous strike is just dry enough to let the water make the connection between the two layers. Congratiolations Joseph I would like to meet you but I am 70 years old and travelling is a job. One day , watercolor paintings will be accept as valuable as oil paintings , only there is a emotional journey to be done for the critics and spectaters. For me it is the art form that is the most direct connected to Music art. I hope for you that in your lifetime you'll get the respect that you deserve

People complaining about usage of white paint have to understand there are a lot of opaque pigments in watercolors besides white ones. Cadmiums, Chromiums, Earths, some blues (i.e. Cerulean).

Joseph Z was once my very favorite watercolor artist. His talent cannot be denied, but now in his later works, and at least in this demo, his use of white detracts from the fresh, magical uniqueness of watercolor. He might as well now be painting with acrylics.

It's the result which counts. His pictures are phenomenal, so who cares if he reaches it with or without gouache? There are no rules in art.

Yes , I say if the purists say you must not use white; then use it in large quantities.
@andrekhamasmie8635

They're probably more concerned about rules, instead of enjoying the end result. If the painting is great who cares abou gouache? I never understood the whole discussion. There are great paintings made of simply anything from pen to chalk, charcoal, pure pigments, sand or paper but when a watercolor painter uses gouache, the great discussion suddenly sets in. Anything that pleases and works is allowed and there are no rules in art. Who wants to live by rules, should focus on crossword puzzles not on art.

Castagnet makes this guy look like the amateur that he will always be. Mud can't be saved with white paint. Alvaro is a master, but Z is a 'product designer' making every scene look the same. Sorry but I think many watercolorists today have a much better color handling ability than Zb.
