If you haven't seen this movie, it's great. Watch it. Great acting, great emotional pull. I didn't know the story until I watched the movie, the ending is a gut punch.

What's The Takeaway? It's a freaking movie my brothers lost there lives there family's lost dad's and husband's and son's and uncles. I understand the concept of the movie but don't say it's great. Yes it tells us a untold story but great great men lost there lives.

@@chainshishd9127 yes it is a devastating film and many great men died but that doesn't mean the film isn't great, some of the greatest films ever made are about depressing truths, shindlers list etc...

Taylor Thompson if your not some internet troll seeking attention and sympathy then im sorry for your loss..after looking into this incident since ive seen the movie ive gained a huge amount of respect for these guys in this line of work..i couldnt imagine having to go through what Brendan McDonough and the families have gone through..fuckin sucks man..

Zak Grady definitely not a troll, nor am I looking for sympathy but thank you for your kind words. The thing people need to understand is that every last one of these guys loved what they did. It doesn't make it easier for their wives or their families but they get it. A friend of mine who was on that crew before he switched to structure was a technical advisor for the movie and made sure they did it right. Go see it or buy it. Its amazing, and it's also funny.

Taylor Thompson yeah i actually watched it about 4 hours before i wrote that comment. The following hours were spent looking into the specifics ya know figuring out what was true and what was hollywood playing it up and from what i can tell there wasnt that much embellishment and thats why i loved the movie soo much..just a terrible accident that ended up killing 19 incredibly brave people who knew the risk and died along side their brothers..its absolutely terrible that it happened but i feel like eveything happens for a reason and i would like to believe that with these 19 brave men's deaths that countless lives were saved because of them and also because of the advancements in equipment, tactics, and training since this tragedy..

Not hearing (or was it not listening..ADD) about this tragedy, the wife and I went to the IMAX in Victoria to watch this movie. I thought it was just about following the gruelling effort about firefighting. This first showing was a packed house, and when the terrible truth came out every one of us in there became absolutely shocked and silent, followed by quiet sobbing. I have never seen so many people leave a theatre without one person talking! It gripped us all All I could say was “Wow!” Brave men who were far beyond any description of what brave is. Thank you gentlemen, and your families, for your heroic sacrifice.

Firefighters dont get appreciated everyday for what they do. My husband is a FF/wildland and i love that he persued his dream as a child. But it sucks that they get a thank you or much appreciation due to the fact they are first on the line at a fire or wild fire, mostly saving peoples lives when at any moment theyll lose theirs and thats when they only get appreciated. So if you see a FF say thank you and tell them they do an excellent job.

This movie is such an eye opening experience for people who don’t quite know what being a firefighter is about but not only a fire fighter this goes for police officers and the military as well every day they wake up and put there lives on the line to protect and serve, being a wild land firefighter myself and I wouldn’t change it for the world and seeing the big smile on my kids faces and then knowing what I do and them being proud makes it even more awarding

kudos to Hollywood on this one...wow this was a great movie. I didn't know about the fact based events that were the inspiration for it. Thus giving me a different perspective. Shame on me for having no idea who the Granite Mountain Hot Shots were, and having no idea that 19 of them were to die tragically. I was enjoying this movie for the realness of the characters, and how the everyday working man could view it as a microcosm of his own life. Then being brought to tears, even before the inevitable was numbing. just pure numbing.
