The ball bearing turbo upgrades are a awesome upgrade for the price. You get the spool of a small turbo and power of a large turbo.

It figures I buy and install a KC300X stage 2, just for KC to come out with a new ball bearing variant, which I probably would of went with, if the option was there. SUCKS!!! I love my stage 2 300x, but damn…this is always my luck, considering I just got done my build about 2-3 weeks ago, and now this….happens with every platform I’ve ever built/tuned. Feels a lot like the tech industry, where you can never keep up with the times. And this is a 20+ year old platform 🤣 I could understand that being the case for a newer vehicle/platform, bc they’re new…R&D is still being done for the aftermarket world. So I expected this to be the case with my Focus RS and ST builds, but not an old dinosaur like the 7.3 😅 Haven’t even put. 500 miles on the truck yet, since all the mods To be completely honest as well, idk how much faster I want my spool up to be, over what I have. I already feel like that boost and power is there as it is, and the spool up speed shocked the hell out of me, on my first hard pull. It’s just happens so quick, and I’m losing traction left and right, before I know it. I mean I’m breaking the wheels loose in third and fourth gear, having gut checks, multiple times now, bc the power came on so quick and snappy. Btw…I plan on doing some videos on the 300X stage 2 in the very near future, once I get a few more things on my list done…and I will definitely be shouting you guys and the products you produce, out, in a positive manner, giving my honest opinions, which so far, have all been GREAT!

Feels like Journal bearing is fine for 80%+ of the population

True… both are great options. But it’s a nice upgrade for a little extra money for those who want quicker response.

Im have thaugt about this demonstration al do and spinn the wheels and compare them. Non of them have the right conditions, its lack of oil that is a benefit for the journal style and perhaps the opposite for ball bearing turbo. Just my perspective of it.

It’s better in many cases too. When oil is in there, it has “minimal “friction like he states in the beginning as to why they are not as good.. 🙄 They hold up better to diff oil pressures too. Ball bearing turbo is more sensitive to different oil pressure and it’s actually bad if you get a lot of oil flow in there it’ll actually make them perform worse. You also need coolant lines for ball bearing most of the time. Journal is cheaper. it’s more durable and spins about just as good when that hot oil is in there !

I use a $200 maxspeedingrod gt3582 and its journal. Rb25. Its 370whp at 13.5 psi. Perfect

Now that I know they’re sensitive compared to journal I would think twice. But 13 hp gains with that rpm increase is really tempting. So oil change, and air filter main things to be cautious of…maybe when changing parts be certain to cover the pipes and holes ? What else ?

I think the ball bearing would work better for zf6 if it spools quicker. I could be wrong

Agreed, with the ZF6 you need allll the love down low.

Is there any advantage at a maintained load and rpm? Does the DBB unit maintain a higher shaft rpm vs a journal bearing at a given load and rpm, or is the advantage only noticed during transient throttle scenarios?

Do yall make a stage one turbo with dual ball bearing? For a 6.0 with a zf-6?

My slow azz 600hp street car is traction challenged as it is,,makes its 30 lbs in about .4 of a second,,so,,why do i need an "instant on" BBturbo?

Wow a turbo that makes 30psi under half a second. What car and what setup?
i had the KC38R only 12k miles on it, bearing let go in Kansas and cost me much $$ to get my camper and truck back to Indiana so beware!

I am sorry to hear about your bad experience, that really sucks. We have strict quality control and every turbo is built by hand in AZ. But sometimes things can happen, and sometimes even small issues like a sensor failure can cause trouble for a ball bearing. Did you reach out to our customer service team (480-688-7160)? With that low of miles im sure you're still under warranty!
