On the Infinity album, "Feeling That Way" went directly into "Anytime" without a whole second in between, making it feel like one song. "Anytime" wasn't included in this video though. The best version of both are actually the studio recorded versions...not that the live versions are bad, but Infinity had some pretty sophisticated mixing and subtle studio effects that enhanced the songs. Plus, on the studio versions, Steve Perry was able to provide backing vocals in addition to lead vocals, which made them much sweeter.

Back in the 90s when we were using CD's in radio, the CD's that were prepared for classic rock stations had "Feeling That Way/Anytime" as one song even though it's listed as track 2 and track 3 on the actually Journey album Infinity. Not many Journey fans are aware that in their pre-hit/Perry days, Journey was a 4-piece jazz fusion outfit, consisting of Gregg Rolie, Neal Schon, Ross Valory, and Aynsley Dunbar. It was this lineup of the band (and the release of their 1975 eponymous debut album) that prompted their visit to the studios of KUHF, the campus radio station at the University of Houston in May of that year to meet the staff and me, the 20-year-old Music Director. As their debut album took on an outer space theme, they awarded me a framed Deed to a Star, apparently declaring I own a star somewhere....out there! I still have the 8x10 glossy photo of me holding up my new Deed posing with the band! The Weather Report style of Journey lasted for a couple albums, when Columbia Records, knowing that 8-minute prog-rockers weren't gonna be yielding any chart-toppers, began begging them for hits. The members took singing lessons to better back Rolie on his lead vocals, with Schon taking the lead occasionally. Even as their third album, "Next" (1977) contained shorter songs and better harmonies, hits still eluded them. Columbia now suggested a front man; enter Robert Fleischman for five minutes, about whom more can be read elsewhere. Steve Perry didn't emerge until late 1977. The rest is history, a little geography, and a lot of math.
