I don’t blame you Randy with the vehicle for Nick. In SC they can get their permit at 14 1/2 years old. I bought a Passat I thought would be a good first car, but I didn’t realize how hard some stuff was to work on them like the heater and unfortunately with my health now I can’t do it myself anymore. So we decided instead of paying a lot here in SC for a beat up used older unsafe vehicle again, we bought our kid a 2015 Chevy Spark. It got good gas mileage and good ratings in accidents. They were going into junior high. Chevy had a great deal on a few of the LS models and it cost us $11,400 including tax out the door paying cash. So they used it through high school, undergrad, grad school, and they still have it while they are now working full time in NC. I recently put a third battery in it (two batteries plus original) front brakes once, tires once, and plugs once. They have 80,000 miles on it and it still runs great. Body is in great shape. I’ve run Mobile One full synthetic in it from day one. They plan to keep it till it doesn’t run anymore. They will be 25 in March.

Great story. When I was in high school, I actually purchased my own first car while working after school and on weekends. For me, it made more sense to get something newer, more reliable, and safer. While most kids in my school were driving 20 year old clapped out Civic's and beat up trucks, I actually had something decent. I think it really depends on the kid, though. While I was more mature, there were definitely kids that should have been driving beaters. When they crashed them after 6-12 months, at least a lot of monetary value wasn't lost.

The electric windows on the VW have a safety feature: when an obstacle (like fingers, an arm or even the head of a child) is recognized while closing the window, it automatically opens again. Just open and close the windows several times and the joints will be lubricated again and will not detect a false obstacle.

I suppose I am different from most people, but when I was in the market for my first car, I wanted either a Toyota Tercel, a Geo Metro, or a Volvo 240. I ended up getting the Volvo 240, which I still have. After that I got a 1999 corolla, and another 240. I still have both 240s. The two bucket list cars I have are a Yugo and an early model Ford Pinto. If I were your kid, I would have wanted that Chevy citation or some obscure car like that which you never see. I am weird though. Either way, I paid for my cars. If it were being given to me, I would take what I could get and I really wouldn't have been mad with that Prius. I think that is the last good looking generation Prius. I would much rather have the 1st generation which looks like an echo, but hey, that is still a good car. Although it does look battered, it needs a good cleaning and cheap paint.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it still had the original hybrid system and CVT. Even here in rust country New England, I still see this very model with 300k+ miles still being used as daily drivers. The Sierra, personally I wouldn't touch. There has to be a reason it ended up at a place like this. And that 3.0L Duramax diesel has had some serious issues with them.

Seriously Randy, I've plugged it before. I bought my wife a 2018 Ford Fusion Hybrid. The car is phenomenal. It averages 38-40 on the highway and 36 in the city. It's not the fastest, but man it has some great room in it. The trunk is smaller because of the battery placement right behind the rear seat, but it can fit 5 people in the car comfortably. She loves it, traded in a Hyundai Sonata Hybrid for it. She now has about 75K on it, we got it with 45K. Knock on wood, absolutely no issues with the car, just regular maintenance. I've talked to other Fusion owners, and they've had similar stories. I have a 2016 Lincoln MKZ, and it puts the MPG to shame on that. I get between 18 to 21 MPG city and 28-29 MPG highway. The only reason I keep my Lincoln is they have the best lumbar support of any car I've driven. I had back surgery in 2021, and believe me, I need good lumbar support.

Another good car for Nick is the little Pontiac Sunfire convertible, It could be a different model but is is like your Z24 but red with a white top, that would be a great first car or better yet find him a Z24 convertible, that would be cool. Good luck, you could always get him a nice foxbody with a V6 or a 4 banger. Good luck on the decision and as always I'll catch you on the next one. 😀✌❤

The tailgate is for working people to have a desk, act as a step to get into the bed, the flap can make the 6.5 bed + tailgate accommodate 8’ boards, the Kicker system is actually pretty good for what it is, and the newer ones come with power up. Kids are getting BRAND spanking new mustangs, scat packs, and camaros, new trail bosses and f150's 2023. i know 3 that have had accidents already because a mustang or 500hp is not wise to give a 16 year old girl. if you see a bright orange mustang with the bumper falling off, its probably a 16 year old girl. im lucky my parnts got me a 2015 gmc sierra1500 double cab and its awesome. i know its still not a great first car for a kid but i love it and im glad they got it for me. its not like my parents went all out and bought A 70K Vcar or truck for a first car. its just not smart
