One thing Neal Schon learned well from his days in Santana is how to work the guitar & keyboard and feed off each other. This song is smokin'.

They were Soul Men - and got down to prove it. This is bare bones Journey, or Steve and Neal (and Rolie). This is what music was and should have remained. Did I see Freddie Prinze in the foreground at 2:11 and 2:27?

Love how Schon's guitar can mimic the sound of the keyboard. Steve once said that he loved he Schon's guitar was soulful, evoking the sound of a voice. They really made MAGIC together. Sometimes there is chemistry in a band that can never be replaced with new personnel...

In fact, I WISH management would have had the foresight to put them on Soul Train and Solid Gold. They would have scorched the earth with their soul/rock music (Not even (gasp) The Isley Brothers could touch them!)

Cool, groovin' version. Journey did a version the year before in October '78 during their King Biscuit Superjam sessions (inc. Tower of Power Horns), which was never broadcast or officially released, although the audio is out there (and Roadrunner from '78 is here on youtube)

FatFred2U more soul and fro than a jar of Afro Sheen. What an explosion if management would have had the foresight to put Journey on SOUL TRAIN or Solid Gold. That...would have been EPIC! In fact, would have opened up another level of demographics to Journey and Steve.

The kind of jamming always loved back then. They all were great! They watched Steve and sang back up, as well as Neal joining with the keyboard. The sax and the guitars .Yeah baby! Makes you want to get up and dance or clap your hands. When music was music!

@nx01701 you can google journey superjam and check out an equal if not better roadrunner. Perry loved R/b he also does people get ready and lights. Rollie does born under a bad sign. bunch of guests like michael mcdonald.. The other version o froadrunner is an early tv show good perf poor sound Wish th eband would let fans buy mp3s of some ofthe early 78 shows wiht perry dueting rollie.

Arnel worships Steve Perry, so I give him credit for choosing such an unreachable idol to emulate but no one can do what Steven Ray Perry was born to do but Steve Perry himself.
