Wasn't expired. The game was rejected because it didn't follow the main plot of the movie, which was the intentional choice done by Sunsoft to focus more on the action as seen from the early footage of their development, game was changed drastically. So they switched the license to Batman and reskinned the whole Terminator concept.

@@Sledgex3 I can't find any information backing up that claim, which I very much doubt. The only explanation I could find is that Sunsoft lost The Terminator license. @@HeroesofXanaduSloth I agree that the music of stage 2 is the best, I agree with you. However, the feeling that the song of the first stage brings us is magical and the best, practically without mentioning anything!, they show us "feels", the song already begins with a special adrenaline, it makes us see it from the point of view where life itself places Jay as a true hero and avenger, in addition to having that "special" that makes you realize that perhaps Jay is the last hope of the Colony, it is the personal point of view where, in addition to seeking revenge, he seeks justice for his destroyed place, see the scene in general, where he runs between the roofs shooting at robots in his own destroyed home, the mortars in the background that shoot him trying to block his way, drones attacking, hostile and designed to kill humans. That all of this is supported by background music like stage 1/5 is simply magical. And to finish my opinion, I appreciate that they have decided to place the same song in the last stage, since it makes you understand that despite having gone through many places Jay does not abort his mission and continues with the same conviction that he started, he did not forget the why he began his fight, and how close he is to fulfilling his final mission. That is what that music transmits to me, perhaps aesthetically it is not the best in the game, but I think it is the one that contributes the most narrative content, and that for me is already special ♡.

+Nathan Clark The 2A03 processor found in the NES had 5 audio channels: 2 Square Waves, 1 Triangle Wave, a White Noise generator, and a 1-bit delta-modulated Digital PCM. Most NES games use the channels as follows: Square 1: Sound Effects Square 2: Melodies Triangle: Bass and Sound Effects Noise: Percussion DPCM: Sound Effects and Voice Samples (if used at all). However, sometime around 1990, Sunsoft decided to start using the under-used Digital PCM channel for the bass line in their soundtracks. They utilized the audio channels as follows: Square 1: Melodies Square 2: Harmonies and SFX Triangle: Percussion Noise: Percussion DPCM: Bass The use of the DPCM for the bassline freed up the Triangle Wave channel, which was then used to supplement the percussion. In addition, the use of all 5 audio tracks for music meant that when one of the tracks had to switch over from playing music to generating sound effects, it was much less noticable. The game Metal Storm, for example, only used 4 of the 5 available audio tracks (the DPCM channel wasn't used at all), so when one of the audio tracks had to switch over to play a sound effect (such as every time the player shoots) it was very noticable and somewhat jarring. Variations on this format can be found in many of Sunsoft's later NES games, including Journey to Silius, Batman: Return of the Joker, Ufouria, Mr. Gimmick, and Super Spy Hunter. In fact, most emulators will let you enable and disable each of the 5 audio channels independently. In JNES, for example, you can click on Options→Audio→Mixer and it will give you a list of all the audio channels (including the VRC6 audio channel present in certain japanese Famicom Disk System games such as Castlevania III) and allow you to choose which ones you want to hear.

This OST has that special oomph to it! It's just quality through-and-through. According to Wikipedia: "The soundtrack was composed by Naoki Kodaka. Most NES composers would use the digital channel for sampled drums and the other channels for melodic content, but for Journey to Silius, Kodaka, with the programming assistance of Nobuyuki Hara, Shinichi Seya, and Naohisa Morota used the digital channel for a sampled bassline, and the triangle channel for a kick drum."

In the wake of the Nintendo Classic NES Mini, I pulled out my old NES and played Journey To Silius primarily to relive the music. It's superb. It's so superb that at the time of original purchase I made an audio-tape of the theme. It included an extended version of the finale where I repeated the first two stanzas before the final stanza played. It was all over way too quickly otherwise.

Imagine if Nintendo had this game back when the Famicom was originally released in 1983. It would have been so mind-blowing to the people who were accustomed to the Atari 2600.

The reason why this game in particular had such an amazing soundtrack for the NES was that this game's cartridge had a custom advanced sound chip! They really used it well too.

8-bit music at it's best! Too bad this game couldn't get completed as a Terminator game as originally planned. Just imagine how great the Terminator theme from the movie would sound in the hands of these composers!

Especially when you see how Radical Entertainment's "Genius" composer Paul Wilkinson butchered its music
@Nikos8BitStereo
10 жыл бұрын
Well they may not have converted the Terminator theme either, I'm sure the soundtrack would have been just like how it is here, but who knows. Also Paul Wilkinson didn't do that bad, as most games made by Radical Entertainment, he had a short amount of time to compose as the games he worked on were always rushed. Being the only in-house composer, and having what he had to compose be rushed, only natural the soundtracks he did didn't have much to it. But I enjoy the music he did for Wayne's World and Mario Is Missing.

I fucking love this game and I know pretty much everything about it. Did you know that it was originally created to be a Terminator game? There's some remnants that confirm this... First off, the final boss looks like the original Terminator, and the intro contains a music cue that resembles the Terminator theme song. Glad Sunsoft didnt scrap the game when they lost the Terminator license!
