Awesome trip and a really fine video. Maybe I can take a look of more of your travel trips with you, your wife and your nimbus if you’ll show them on KZitem! I’m really looking forward to your next boat trip! Thanks for sharing the video with us. Greetings from Germany.

Somewhat envious of your cruise for a little longer, as we have bought a Sealine 270 & berthed in La Rochelle. We will be doing the Vendee this spring & South Brittany by summer. Our plan was if we bought in UK to take the Dinan / Rennes / Redon route home, as it happens we bought in S. Germany so she was trucked here. As we have the whole Biscay coast & the feeder rivers to cruise, we have plenty of fun to come. When we retire (not so far off) we intend to do the canal du Midi also. Bon Voyages et Bonne Chance Jouster Crew.

Hi Russ Thanks for your comments. Yes it was a great trip although we would have liked a bit longer. We have cruised extensively the West coast of France in our previous sailing cruisers so we know you have many delights to come when you have the freedom to do so. We bought our boat in Shwerin where it was on a lake North West of Berlin - so we have something in common buying in Germany. We had it trucked to South West corner of Holland and then we took the boat through Belgium and back to Poole. There is a video of that trip also on utube if you are interested. Enjoy your new boat - I am sure you will. Regards John

I suppose it is just the title that is misleading to those searching for information - Poole to vendee instead of Guernsey to vendee, never mind, you have no obligation to help others with information gained from your experiences. It all looks very nice indeed -if you can get there safely in the first place

Hi, I appreciate this video is quite old but if you are still around, I have a few questions. I am looking at buying a boat mostly for cruising in French canals and rivers but also some coastal stuff and, of course, channel crossing. The Nimbus 320 is pretty high up my list. I noticed you put pipe lagging on the handrails - did you actually ever come into contact on these ? I though this might tear fairly easily and was thinking more of thick wall rubber tube or D-Section. I notice you had a stick up front to gauge height. Do you know what the air draft of the boat is with antenna and radar arch removed? I plan on going down Canal du Midi and bridges there get as low as 3.25m and are arched I see you have more fenders on the side than normal - did you have any issues with these lifting as you do down in locks? Ive seen others put wooden boards on the side to protect but seems very cumbersome What sort of consumption did you get at canal speeds? Any other tips to share on canals in general or the Nimbus specifically? Thanks in anticipation

I'm sure there are plenty of instructive videos out there about channel crossings, but this wasn't my intention. This is purely a record of the more interesting parts of the trip, to us, and one we can look back on in times to come. It is what it is and hopefully some of the content will be of interest to some people who may want to do something similar.

For those of us who haven't crossed the channel in a small boat before, it would have been useful to know something about the voyage plan, course, tidal stream planning, decisions re weather conditions and sea state, any encounters with shipping, and just to view briefly what to expect. My limited experience has caused me to search for information on the internet to aid me in my future voyage planning.
