I'm just expressing my joy for being a part of East in the best way I know how.
Why 23?
Hebrew, like Greek and Arabic, is an alphabet where the letters are all simultaneously numbers as well. The practice of looking at the numeric values of words and comparing them is called Gematria.
There are a few words for Joy used throughout the Biblical texts. There is one that is used when the term is in reference to the Joy of the Lord (Adonai), this word is chedvah. It is interesting to me that this word is the feminine noun form of Joy and the one used in reference to the Lord. Its value is 23, which is a prime number, meaning it is only divisible by 1 and itself. Our Joy, is thus indivisible.
Another word which also equals 23 is the word chayah, which is a verb and means to live, or living, life. The numerical equivalence implies these words are related. One way to consider this connection is that to live is to have joy, that joy is in the nature of our going. Joy is a side effect of Life. They become like sacraments to our very existence.
