3:13 "I can't believe I tried to hurt you, I hope you forgive me." I love that. That is *deeply* personal and that's the type of emotional depth and vulnerability music is missing nowadays. Artists make "emotional" music all the time but they don't bare their soul. This man made his guilt and anguish over almost aborting his son into a song for millions to listen to. That takes balls. Asking for forgiveness. That takes balls and is very vulnerable. I respect that.

I had my daughter at 16. Before her I had no motive in life and didn’t know what I wanted to be. I got Kicked out from home because I was pregnant so then I was homeless and pregnant but I pulled through found a place to stay, got a job and finished high school. No one was at my graduation but me and my daughter. I just finished a qualification and currently studying business to eventually start my own. My daughter is my motivation to live and keep doing what I have to do for US.

[Intro] Yo I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually You will eventually Some day One day [Refrain] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me I hope you understand I love you more than life itself And this is nothin' but your daddy's thoughts when he was feelin' empty [Verse 1] And everything ain't always what it seems like on the outside I fought so many tears so that you would never see the outcry I never wanted kids until I lived and went through hard times And became a man that fell in love with someone that my heart finds But you know how that shit go Young and reckless, different women part time And I wasn't ready for that life yet, I was in my dark prime Me and your moms ain't get along and she gave me a hard time I really think that we just crossed paths at the wrong time I wasn't happy when she said she was pregnant Probably the worst news of my life, that shit was so depressing I told her she should get an abortion and I really meant it I'm sorry that I said that shit, yo I was trippin' [Refrain] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me I'm sorry, yo [Verse 2] And I never wanted a broken home to raise you from a distance Yeah I'll admit it, I was scared of that type of commitment Even hopes of a miscarriage, anything bad that could happen That'd get me out of that situation, I was livid I felt like shit about my thoughts, that wasn't me, I'm different Plus I was dealing with some demons that I couldn't live with I told her she should get an abortion and I really meant it [Refrain] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me Hope you don't hate me, I was selfish, I hope you forgive me Hope you forgive me [Verse 3] And I still remember your baby shower like it was yesterday And to your mom it was special, me, just another day I wish that you could see the pictures, all the fake phony smilin' Had to pretend that I was happy, deep down I was cryin' Ma asked if I was okay, I turned around and looked away I was dryin' all my tears, look back to say yeah I was lyin', goddamn, how the hell I get here? This is it, this supposed to be my life This ain't how I pictured it I never felt so damn alone, but it was more than often One of the worst days of my life, and I ain't even lyin' We argued when we came home, I blame myself for all this I think that I was holding a grudge 'cause she ain't get an abortion I'm sorry Damn [Refrain] And I know you can't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me I can't believe I tried to hurt you, I hope you forgive me Please, please [Verse 4] And everything ain't always what it seems like on the outside I fight so many tears so that you would never see the outcry I sacrifice my life so you could live it Peace, want to give you things my father couldn't give to, me I think I was raised wrong, and that's just what it is to me And if you ask him then his ass gon' probably disagree But whatever, whatever And nothing's ever made me cry as much as you, I swear Your smile gives me motivation and some new ideas My worst fear is always you not knowing who I am 'Cause I been on the road dreamchasing for you out here I was the first thing that you opened your eyes to And the last one that you said goodnight to I went home and cried to And I bawled my eyes out, and then watched you Glad I got you, that's a blatant fact And every negative thing I said I swear I take it back [Refrain] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me I hope you understand I love you more than I love myself And this is nothin' but your daddy's thoughts when he was feelin' empty [Outro] I was feelin' empty I been feelin' empty I put my emotions in this music when I'm feelin' empty I hope you forgive me Please, please

A lot of women here posting experiences of being pregnant with a kid or not ready etc but no guys, so I guess I'll go first. This song is one of the deepest songs from Joyner for ME. I'm sure others have deeper. You see, my real dad found his band more important than me and my mother & I grew up fighting physically & mentally with my step father. I didn't start seeing my real dad till older & it was shitty bouncing back and forth. When my dad was hospitalized and found near death the first time, I remember sitting there looking at him in the hospital bed and wanting so badly to feel sad or cry but I couldn't. I felt like a piece of shit. Anyways skip to the future, I was with a girl and our relationship began to fall apart & we were taking a break/prob gonna break up but then she called one day telling me she was pregnant. My heart sunk, I got depressed AF, my life felt like it was over. I kind of low key always wanted to be a dad one day, but I wasn't ready, and for damn sure not with a relationship that's falling apart because I know he/she would end up growing up the same way I did. Sharing parents. I didn't want that. I told her something I always felt like I could never say.. I asked if she would get an abortion. A discussion happened which turned into a deserved argument toward me and she hung up. Later on after clearing my head I called her back and we talked a lot. I told her the reason why I considered it, I know it's selfish etc. So we came to an agreement that we can try to make our relationship work for the kid. There was ups and downs, but the baby was bringing us together. My anxiety turned into.. anxious/excitement? Knowing I was gonna be a dad & have a family of my own. The worst news followed a few months later though.. When she got pregnant she had an IUD. Even though she got it removed, there is still a chance of a miscarriage if you get pregnant with one. And that's what happened.. It fucking hurt, and I'm sure it hurt her even harder. The relationship went to shit and we split up for good. And the most fucked up part that I feel bad about.. Is that I'm relived that the miscarriage happened. And I know it's so wrong to think that, but I can't help it. This song always makes me feel bad remembering when I wanting my unborn child to die, when I actually started looking forward to keeping them and thinking about how my life would be with them here now. Ultimately the song makes me feel like a piece of shit but it also makes me feel other ways. Idk, I can go on and on, but rant over. Thanks for listening.

Having a kid can ruin your life (incredibly expensive, stressful, exhausting etc). It can also be the best thing that ever happens to you. It's not like it's a personal thought against you, as in who you are now

Same here, I'm adopted I've never met my birth parents. My adopted parents which are my real parents ask me do I want to meet my birth mother. I'm not ready yet. I'm 26 but she has mental issues and I just don't want to be hurt or anything I guess. At the same time I don't want her to die and I never at least saw her face. Life's crazy....

I feel you. My dad died a year after i met him. I met him when i was 6 years old. 2 weeks later i came to this country and never saw him again. His death brought me so much depression it still hits me. And i started Going through the path he did. Till i got arrested 2 months ago, and that woke me up. And now seeing this video gave me a chance. Now i have a stepdad who cares about me and I will graduate for my mom my stepdad my grandma and uncle who raised me, my brothers. And for my dad.

He's not underrated at all he's just not an industry puppet getting all this exposure. The man is dope the best out if you ask me I hope he stays indie cause the industry will change everything about his music they wouldn't let him tell his message like he wants to tell it. Same goes for mysoone and Hopsin.

[Chorus] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older, I hope you don't hold this shit against me I hope you understand I love you more than life itself And this is nothin' but your daddy's thoughts when he was feelin' empty [Verse 1] And everything ain't always what it seems like on the outside I fought so many tears so that you would never see the outcry I never wanted kids until I lived and went through hard times And became a man that fell in love with someone that my heart finds But you know how that shit go, young and reckless, different women part time And I wasn't ready for that life yet, I was in my dark prime Me and your moms ain't get along and she gave me a hard time I really think that we just crossed paths at the wrong time I wasn't happy when she said she was pregnant Probably the worst news of my life, that shit was so depressing I told her she should get an abortion and I really meant it I'm sorry that I said that shit, yo I was trippin' [Chorus] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older, I hope you don't hold this shit against me I'm sorry, yo [Verse 2] And I never wanted a broken home to raise you from a distance Yeah I'll admit it, I was scared of that type of commitment Even hopes of a miscarriage, anything bad that could happen That'd get me out of that situation, I was livid I felt like shit about my thoughts, that wasn't me, I'm different Plus I was dealing with some demons that I couldn't live with I told her she should get an abortion and I really meant it, damn [Chorus] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older I hope you don't hold this shit against me Hope you don't hate me, I was selfish, I hope you forgive me I hope you forgive me (please forgive me) [Verse 3] And I still remember your baby shower like, it was yesterday And to your mom it was special, me, just another day I wish that you could see the pictures, all the fake phony smilin' Had to pretend that I was happy, deep down I was cryin' Ma asked if I was okay, I turned around and looked away I was dryin' all my tears, look back to say "Yeah" I was lyin', goddamn, how the hell I get here? This is it, this supposed to be my life, this ain't how I pictured it I never felt so damn alone, but it was more than often One of the worst days of my life, and I ain't even lyin' We argued when we came home, I blame myself for all this I think that I was holding a grudge cause she ain't get an abortion I'm sorry (fuck) damn [Chorus] And I know you can't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older, I hope you don't hold this shit against me I can't believe I tried to hurt you, I hope you forgive me Please, please [Verse 4] And everything ain't always what it seems like on the outside I fight so many tears so that you would never see the outcry I sacrificed my life so you could live it, peace Want to give you things my father couldn't give to, me I think I was raised wrong and that's just what it is to me And if you ask him then his ass gon' probably disagree But whatever, whatever... And nothing's ever made me cry as much as you, I swear Your smile gives me motivation and some new ideas My worst fear is always you not knowing who I am Cause I been on the road dreamchasing for you out here I was the first thing that you opened your eyes to And the last one that you said goodnight to I went home and cried to And I bawled my eyes out and then watched you Glad I got you, that's a blatant fact And every negative thing I said I swear I take it back [Chorus] I know you don't understand my words but you will eventually And when you get older, I hope you don't hold this shit against me I hope you understand I love you more than I love myself And this is nothin' but your daddy's thoughts when he was feelin' empty I was feelin' empty, I been feelin' empty I put my emotions in this music when I'm feelin' empty I hope you forgive me Please, please [Voicemail] Yo wassup, this is Joyner I'm unable to take your call right now Leave me a brief message and I'll get back to you, peace [Brief Message] Ayo nigga, this is like the twelfth time I've call you, dawg I'm sick of getting this fucking voicemail, my nigga I need my money today, nigga! Not tomorrow, not next week, nigga, I want it now, bro! Don't have me pull up and, and stunt! You know how the fuck I do, my nigga! That's the last thing you want, so get that paper right, bro I'm not fucking around!

This generation should recognize and appreciate the talent this man has. He is one of if not the best story teller hip hop has ever witnessed. I’m sure blessed to have witnessed a the abilities of this man. It’s like witnessing an Ali fight. I’m an 80’s baby so I don’t have any recollection of the hype which surrounded Mohammad Ali. But I did get to witness Michael Jordan , Michael Jackson, Mike Tyson, the start of the internet, and this man joyner lucas.

(Please read if you have the time) I rarely write comments in videos but I thought I had to. I can relate to this song so much right now, every word Joyner said is what I recently when through. I'm only 19 years old and close to having my first Child, I remember first hearing the news and thinking to myself like I'll never do this, I don't want this, I ain't ready. I even told me partner to have an abortion, "cause it's not like the things alive," I couldn't stand telling my parents. My initial though was that they would disown me, Time went on and I understood more on how much it meant to her, and how much it would mean to me. So we decided to have it. I was barely getting an income of money, but I was confident on everything I did. Tried my best to stay positive. We both went along with everything and I eventually told me parents and close friends. It was a rough road getting everything through my head, but I wouldn't change any of it. In I couple of weeks time I will be staring in the eyes of my first daughter. Wish me luck🌹 EDIT: (This truely is insane on how much support I have received here. I've read every comment on this post and have acknowledged every single one of you. It seriously means a lot hearing everyones love and support for me and my daughter. I would reply to every single one of you if I had the time, but I hope you people realise on how thankful I am. Thank you for the prayers and luck you guys have wished me. I know this sounds weird but its more support I've ever received. As for my darling. She is great, she is close to being 6 weeks old and its all going so far. If you guys would like to see her I have a few photos on my Instagram (Just type up my name and you should find me). And as for me, I'm fine, taking everything one day at a time. Still no job, but of course I'm applying for everything on the market. Once again, much love to all you guys!)
