If you mic it on axis it should reduce the boxiness. I found it works with cheaper cabs. I have a cheap Strauss class A amp that sounds great in the room but is unusably muddy when miked in the traditional off axis spot. It's probably the cheap wood and cheap cone material creating those woolly resonances, which disappear when you go on axis.

While recording, if the listener didn't know it was a Joyo 8" speaker they would think it was a much larger amp. The guitar has a limited frequency band and I think this actually covers it. Just my opinion. Remember, Billy Gibbons used a Fender Champ with an 8" speaker to record Lagrange and the same type of amp was used by Joe Walsh to record Rocky Mountain Way.

Remember, they plugged those amps into mixers, and had a whole lot of studio sound reinforcement. They used those little amps to save money, the same reason why everyone's buying cheap amps now. Why use a fancy amp on tracks that'll be 'sweetened' anyway? Don't be surprised if you hear they used student model guitars!

@MrRadialdrift
5 жыл бұрын
@@intheblues That's an odd tangent. There is no requirement to plug anything into a PC to use the Katana. It has all the controls on the amp. If people want the deep editing function, then that is a bonus. Bang for buck, the Joyo is completely over priced. Not only is the Katana 50 a good bedroom practice amp, but it is very capable of being used to gig with. If it was $200 with the Cabinet, then it would make sense, but at $330, it doesn't have a place in the market. Also, you have to buy a different head to achieve a different sound with the Joyo, whereas the Katana has 5 built in. So you are looking at $1246 to do what the Katana does for $330.
