I’m a multi-instrumentalist (read “unfocused/easily-distracted”). I’ve never owned an Orange amp, but I’ve played them at studios and they’ve impressed me so much when I have. They sound so good and make me immediately feel and sound like a better guitarist. I bought one of these to see if it might bring a freshness and life to an otherwise boring amp. I am sooooooooo impressed! I’m using it with an old Peavey Musician 400 which has a ton of power but has always looked much cooler than it sounds. This has really brought it new life. Does it sound like a real Orange amp&cab? Can’t say I really know or care. I just know that my guitar sounds and feels way better with this in my signal chain. It is giving me the same feeling of undeserved confidence that I’ve had when playing through a real Orange stack.

Great comment! Thanks for your insight. You've hit the nail on the head. When I first played through this using the exact same settings that I achieved a very pleasant and cosy sound with both the AC Tone and American, this one basically said, "Nah, I'm not playing with those other kids". It imposed its own personality upon me, and as I said, it made my amp come alive, but it was almost too much attitude for me to suddenly deal with. But obviously that attitude is rubbing off on you in really positive way. Thank you for responding and keep rockin'. ✌

There is no cab IR in this pedal, or any of the others for that matter. There's a slight bit of internal eq going on to simulate speaker tone...look up the Joyo amp pedal cab bypass mod. The voice knob on the Oxford does the same thing the others do...the pedals actually all use the same board layout with a difference in a few basic components to change what frequencies the EQ knobs affect and the flavor of gain.

For those of you of little patience (and I understand that) skip to 6:28 for the first real demonstration of the pedal. But if you're really impatient then go straight to 11:59 when I do a simple loop demo exploring the whole sweep of the controls. Cheers!

Great demo. This pedal is the Metal Zone of the Joyo amp in a box pedal series. Not because of how it sounds, but because of the controls; how nuanced they are and how it can be difficult to dial in the tones you’re looking for. I like it though; for the money it’s not bad at all. Definitely better with humbuckers or fatter single coil pickups. Also- my experience has been that it stacks nicely. So if you can’t quite get that pushed Orange sound, you can put a decent OD pedal before it and it should sound pretty good.

I don't think that valvestate takes pedals well. I use the vox valvetronix and it reacts differently to drive pedals depending on the setting. I've come to the conclusion through my experience that the amp models that are built into it are dammed hard to beat with pedals. I just use two moskys with the vox now the silver horse (klon) and the spring reverb. I have the American sound pedal that I use with the Harley Benton tube 5 and that's a great combo for fender tones.

How many orange amps does it simulate?
@NewFalconerRecords

Probably none to be honest. Orange amps have been a successful company for well over 50 years but if they sounded like what most of this pedal puts out they wouldn't have lasted for six months! Having said that, there are some great tones here to be found and an Orange amp enthusiast (not me, unfortunately) may find something that reminds them of what makes those amps great. I'd actually love an actual Orange amp user to review this pedal. Thanks for your interest. Cheers!

@NewFalconerRecords I pretty much use Orange amps exclusively..and honestly this pedal does a very good job of getting that sounds. With the voice more to the left, you can get close to an AD30 sound, the further clockwise you push it, you can get into Rockerverb territory. Would I replace my orange amps with it? Absolutely not. But I can say I've done some scratch guitar tracks on songs with one of these and intended to re-record it later my amps and sometimes I've left the joyo track on, because it sounded totally fine and in the ballpark.

I have both an American Sound and an Oxford Sound pedal. The American sound is very versatile. The Oxford sound much less so, but it does provide a palette of tones unavailable any other way. Definitely not my usual cup of tea, but occasionally it comes out when I'm looking for a particular tone and sound. I like pretty much everything I've ever bought from Joyo - with the singular exception of their "Vintage Overdrive" pedal, which remains at the bottom of a cardboard box somewhere.
@NewFalconerRecords
Жыл бұрын
Ah yes... the Vintage Overdrive. It's apparently an excellent clone of the Tube Screamer, but you're either a TS guy (or girl) or you're not. I'm totally with you on this one. Rhett Shull described the Tube Screamer as having someone draping a blanket over your amp. That's the best description I've ever heard. Like you, I've got my Joyo Vintage Overdrive languishing somewhere in the house, and if I don't manage to find it, no great loss.
@anthonypanneton923

@@NewFalconerRecords YA. I tried it hoping it they might have found some cool way to tweak the classic TS, but those things are just not my cuppa tea. at one end of the "voice" or "focus" (or whatever that knob is called) its all mud, and at the other end its all nasty, honky 500-1000Hz mid-range which I'm usually trying to dial down. I suppose it might be useful for cutting thru the din of a live gig with a band that plays way too loud, but my live gig days are behind me.
@NewFalconerRecords
Жыл бұрын
@@anthonypanneton923 It's all mud I reckon, and I don't know how it can cut through at a live gig, it seems to do the opposite to me. But then it's all Stevie Ray Vaughan used one... John Mayer uses one. Good on 'em, but they can have them as far as I'm concerned.

I'm here for the Aussie analysis of budget pedals, no skipping for me. Seriously though, I have this pedal, and the american sound, and I am thinking of using them direct for my cover band with different drives and stuff.... and I gotta think, why spend 400 dollars on a Dream 65 or Iridium when you can get more than a decent sound out of these, and they're going to be in noisy bars through bad PA systems for my cover band.... and no one cares. I suppose if we start playing the super nice places it might be worth it.

The demo at 6 min sounds a bit Marshally moreso than Orange IMHO. It's a "neater" tone to me where I associate gritter, dirtier, growlier with Orange.
