Cassandra Ama Anibrika, the chapter chair, accepts the Franklin S. Richards Service award on behalf of the Ghana Accra chapter. The Ghana Accra chapter has a distinguished history of providing service in the community. The members of the Chapter have partnered with local service organizations to further the mission of the Law Society. Most recently, the Chapter had the opportunity to serve children at the Golden Gate International School, a community school in Adenta, Ghana. The children were taught how to protect themselves from different kinds of abuse and mistreatment, including bullying, cyber abuse, and child trafficking. Information and guidance were provided on how to report abuse to their parents and others in a position of trust. All the participants were delighted with the refreshments that were served after the event.
Franklin Snyder Richards, the award’s namesake, was the first general counsel for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Appointed in January 1890, Franklin Richards continued in that assignment until his death on September 4, 1934. A key defender of the Church and its leaders during the tumultuous period of the late 19th century, he was an advocate for women's suffrage, a legislator, and a member of the 1895 Utah State Constitutional Convention. His courageous efforts to defend and promote the rights of unpopular, disenfranchised, and persecuted minorities opened the door to growth and opportunity for countless numbers of men and women.
