Thanks. It’s something very common in the plastic modelling scene but not so common in the RC one. I think a lot of RC modellers hesitate investing lots of time and effort into their projects as the chance of a crash and all the work being for nothing is a factor…

3D printing progressed so fast. Amazing enough the electronics and wiring and flaps linkages are 3D printed into the jet bodies but 3D printing the engines with the turbines and copper motor parts (it’s copper inside electric motors right?) and magnetic materials is crazy. At least they haven’t figured out how to print batteries yet, but still it like the Star Trek replicator in real life.

amazing! both planes look amazing, did you cover the planes with resin prior to doing the paint job?
@marcphilippveenendaal4394
6 ай бұрын
No, the initial tests were with an automotive primer/filler paint. I then tested direct spray paint from the can onto the LWPLA. One observation was that parts painted on one side only warped. It was due to differential moisture absorption (high humidity here in Sydney, Australia) so I upgraded to painting all surfaces of the parts such as access hatches and flaps, inside faces of leading edge slats etc.

You should try making a transparent canopy by heat shrinking a plastic water bottle over a wooden or ABS printed model of the canopy (ABS so it doesnt melt). Its easy and looks very nice on the plane.

I used this process in my 1:10 scale scratch 3D modelled and 3D printed GR4 Tornado - with a hand vacuum cleaner and soda water bottle 😉. Since then I have built a more reliable oven vacuum formed and made some lovely 3D printed bucks and vacuum formed 2 canopies for my 1:10 scale 3D printed Mirage 2000N

I'm really enjoying watching this process of building an amazing aircraft. I've even bought the files and have nearly completed printing the parts. I have a couple questions though. Why does the jet in the downloaded files have just one rear nozzle as opposed to the ones pictured on KZitem? What are the differences? And is there a more detailed Assembly Video for the actual Aircraft in the files?

Will you release the cad source files? I’m more interested in checking out the engineering in the design than printing it myself.
@marcphilippveenendaal4394
6 ай бұрын
Unlikely. The entire development process is made up of numerous stages of saving the parametric model out as a parasolids 3D solids model and then working on further details before saving out as a dumb solids again. The JRM is made up of over 19 developed and saved and staged files. Over 900MB of data
@ZiRo815

Fair enough. If I can encourage it at all, I’d really enjoy taking a look through the source files, especially with regard to the splitting and joining of components.
@marcphilippveenendaal4394
6 ай бұрын
Splitting is the easiest of all our work. The hardest is getting great smooth transitions between surfaces and coming up with a design that not only looks good but works well. Our longest process is the development of the airframe. Once complete, we slice at intervals that make sense for the size of printer and print bed. It takes about 1/10th of the development time.
