yes my favorite issue of MR was jul, '87. it had his old layout, and locomotive roster, plus information about other locomotives. I bought the locomotive roster book and read it till it came apart! ....I have another, but it split rite at the KCS roster. but yeah his layout was and is an inspiration. even without sound, his layout triggers sound in your mind! love it!

I first saw Eric's layout in a magazine around 1982. Back then, Eric's layout was running the most exquisite F7 locomotives through the same amazing scenery. It truly inspired me. Thank you Eric. JSVideo, great video on this layout. Filming and editing is an artform as much as Eric's scenery. Awesome.

Very stunning indeed! I have seen this model railroad throughout the years in RMC, and Model Railroader, and seen all the changes! He's always up to date with his modern railroad, and before the hobby shops got it, Mr Brooman has it already! That's how current his model railroad is!

I love the desert canyon scenery! One of the things I noticed was how smooth the engines and cars tracked throughout the layout. In many model railroad videos there is always some joint that causes the engine to jump or there is always that one train car shaking, wobbling as is runs down the track or bouncing at the frogs. I didn’t see any of that on this layout!
@adeeponionbrah

Thanks so much for presenting this treat! No annoying music or cranked up sound systems. The track has such an admirable lack of car wiggle and appears so carefully laid. I’m sure the cars are well weighted and tuned for run quality. Very nice!

Wow I remember about 20 years ago you were having an open house. I was going to make the drive from Akron Ohio to (if memory serves) a suburb of Indianapolis? We spoke by phone and you were very cordial and invited me over. You explained how you were an art teacher at a local school, which accounted for your incredible scenery. I wanted to arrive before anyone else and video every inch of your fabulous layout (just as someone has done here) but sadly, I never made the trip. Glad the Utah Belt still exists, and the world can see it now.

I switched over from tinplate back in high school, which was in the late 1980s. The school band was selling magazine subscriptions as a fundraiser. I bought one for Model Railroader. One of the first issues had an article about Utah Belt. The topic was about developing a realistic locomotive roster. I had been interested in modeling our hometown road, the Boston and Maine. Unfortunately back then few of the models were available of their equipment. I didn’t have the kit bashing skills yet. The point is that UB inspired me to freelance.

Thank you for that! I never understood my affinity for the UB. Over the many years I have anxiously awaited another photo or article on the railroad. Strange as It's mostly every think I don't like in a layout! Not a fan of western scenery, don't care for modern railroading, not a big SP fan which is what his locos seem to copy. Odd but I guess I love his quality work and the fact that he adheres to careful replication of what that kind of railroad would be. His backdrops are so harmonious with the layout they add so much unlike many backdrops. I have a folder with all the photos and articles Eric has done over the years and look through it often as a reminder to shot for quality in my modeling. Great video of a superb layout! All he needs now is sounds! Great photography too!
