@@the_proctor honestly idk the reasoning behind it but its probably that if you drop it in fair territory, you have to make the bat boy/coach pick it up (well its called batboys for a reason, but it just makes it a bit miserable for them), which makes them walk more than usual to pick up the bat for you. (clarification: its just not a good look on the person who dropped it in fair territory, since its immature of them to do so)
